Hey all,

So with 2009 quickly approaching, I've made a vow to actually start doing things that will help us prepare our house for the baby. You can add me to the list of the earlier post who has done absolutely nothing yet as far as getting ready for the baby. I honestly haven't even bought a single item yet because I've been waiting to find out the gender of the baby first. I did fall in love with a Fleurville diaper bag (called the "Mothership") but my brother bought it for me as a Christmas gift so I technically still haven't made my first baby purchase.

Anyway, I was wondering is it safe to be around and use latex paint while pregnant? My DH is fine with doing the rolling, but he's really bad about cutting in around the ceiling, doors, windows, floorboards, etc. so I was wondering if I could do that part? We have A LOT of painting to do...hallway, kitchen, masterbedroom, bathroom, entryway, and last but not least the nursery, so I was hoping that I could help out, but I don't want to harm the baby.

Thanks!

Stef :-)

I think its pretty safe these days but use lots of ventilation and make sure you are taking frequent breaks and not overdoing it. I think that either home depot or lowes (one of the two) has a new non-toxic fumeless paint out too!

I think it's fine too. Like Karijoy said, open a window, turn on a fan...as long as there's ventilation, shouldn't be a problem. I would maybe even wear a mask if you're worried...and be careful with ladders-- it's so easy to get off balance!

Yeah definitely use ventilation. I bought myself a good $45 mask and it virtually eliminates the odors. Long term exposure to the fumes probably isn't the best.

I've wondered this too, so we can get the nursery ready. But I'm more concerned about all the uncomfortable positions you tend to get into and falling off the ladder (my balance is really thrown off).

I moved into our old flat when I was 7 months pregnant with Logan, we had to paint every room going & it never done any damage, same thing will be likely to happen this time around as well.
Just open a window & turn on a fan like others suggested

I'v painted rooms with every pregnancy and everything was fine. I think for me painting the wall with a fresh color with each baby is a nesting thing for me LOL.

I agree with the other ladies, as long as you're careful and don't overdo it you should be fine. I painted my daughters nursery when I was pg with her and I'll be doing this one's too!
