Hi, I have rarely posted on board but have been an avid lurker for well over a year!
I am 21 weeks, due on 27th May going by my dating scan.

I am 37 in my 2nd marriage, with my 1st husband I had my 1st child at 17 and another 3 followed quite quickly! my youngest is 14.
This is mine and my 2nd husbands 1st and last child together and it took many years to conceive. So I really wanted things to be happy and special.
My dissapointment is my 1st and 3rd children were normal deliverys (the 3rd was very quick just over an hour!) but my 2nd and 4th were c-section due to both being breech...

Well I was really hoping and praying for a normal delivery again this time and today was told that it would be against medical advice and putting both mine and baby's life at risk if I don't have another c-section.
Has anyone here had a normal birth after 2 c-sections?
If I was to have a c-section I am worried about having it done under epidural but would like to be awake to see my baby straight away- (both my others were via general anesetic as thats all that was offered in that hospital then) will I feel it?

Also I have my big scan next week, I am undecided as to whether to find out the sex, I really didnt want to at first and nor did dh, but my mother and other family members are really putting alot of pressure on us to find out as they would like to buy baby some bits and pieces has anyone else not wanted to know and then found out but felt dissapointed after?

Welcome to the group. We're glad your here.

I know nothing about C-sections. Only what other ladies have told me and what I see on Discovery health.

Why is it a risk for you? Is it just because you've already have 2 sections before? I always thought that women could have VBAC's as long as they baby would fit, was in the correct position and there was no emergancy. Can you get a second opinion from another doctor?

There's an entire group dedicated to VBAC if you look down the list a little further. I'm sure you'd get lots of answers there. A lot of moms lurk there even after baby is born, so they'd have some good first hand advice for you.
As for the sex, if you don't want to find out, don't. But I do advise choosing a color scheme, that way they can start buying, even without knowing the sex. Hope that helps.

Hi, thankyou for your replies, after having had a day to think about it all I feel a little calmer now! I think yesturday was just one of those days where everything felt like a major issue and just got me a down...

I am advised to have another c-section due to having had two already and a risk of rupturing of the scar...
As for the sex of baby still unsure as to whether to find out or not

I had a planned c section with my 1st son because he was breech and big (9lb 4oz) and it went really well. Everything was quite calm and relaxed. The spinal was ok, I had to lean forward and keep still, I felt some pressure on my lower back and it works quickly. There was alot of staff in the theatre doing their jobs which is normal and it was a distraction. As for the c section it was fine the baby is out within 5 or 10 min and then you don't want to look at or think of anything else because you are falling in love with your baby. About 20min later I was taken back to my room with my son and our life together began.

I'm now expecting a 2nd son, due 15th may but due to my uterus being naturally thin and now scarred from the c section i have been strongly advised to have a 2nd c section and definetly not to go into labour so i think he will be out late april or early may.

Good luck, you and I will be fine.

I found out the sex of both my sons as soon as i could, it has helped so much with getting organised and picking a name and also it has helped form a bond as i know who i'm talking to.

Any questions please feel free to ask.

Hi thankyou very much for telling me your story, it really has helped - at the end of the day I know it is mine and the baby's welfare they are concerned about - I am a little worried about being awake though! but want to see my baby straight away not to wake in recovery and be told all about my baby by the nurses etc and having to wait till you get settled back on the ward to see/cuddle him/her...

The consultant said it will be done at 39 weeks but my others were done at 38 weeks (1 of which I started contractions the morning of the planned c-section) and my natural labours were 37 & (38 weeks -of which his labour lasted just over an hour!) so I might question this with her again as to whether it is better to go for 38 weeks as I do not want it to turn into a emergency situation.

How long did you stay in hospital? I stayed 5 days with the 1st 4 days with the 2nd , my sister had a baby recently and she said the woman who had, had c-sections were going home after 48hrs! also did you get photos of your son taken straight after birth?

I was in hospital for 6 days i don't know why perhapes because it was my first. I asked to go and they said ok.

Didn't get to take any pics in the theatre though i've heard that some hospitals allow it and other don't. My hospital wouldn't even let my partner cut the cord in case of infection which is a load of rubbish!

I have never had a c-sec so i cant offer much advice there. But with my son and with this baby, a girl I found out the sex. I am a true planner and I can not stand waiting to have everything organized and together. Finding out the sex gives me lots of time to organize and plan and have everything just right for when my little one gets here. I also have loved choosing very gender specific things for both my children and being able to really pick something I loved and not something light yellow or green. Just my thoughts! But welcome anyway and I hope you join us more!
