So, I assumed when I was told I was going in for my genetic screen today for new baby's kidneys.. that i'd be GETTING the genetic screen. Since i'd already done all the genetic paperwork when I was pregnant with Holden, I figured it would be in, get ultrasound, out.

Nope. They made me go and pay a $30 copay to CONFIRM the information they had when I was pregnant with Holden. Like PKD would instantly disappear out of my family or something ridiculous like that. No scan, no nothing.

In fact, they won't even do the scan until the morph (gender) scan at 18-19 weeks.

grrrr, what a waste of a morning!!!

I would have taken my co-pay back and said they can have it when they actually do something. I thought genetic scand are done between 11-13 weeks? I have mine at 12 weeks.

I didn't even think of asking for my money back until I left. Couldn't they have gone over the paperwork on the phone???

I don't remember how early I had it done with Holden.. but it was MUCH sooner than 18-19 weeks.

what a crock

I wouldn't have paid that co pay. I'd call them right now and ask for the money back. You pay that money for an exam or consultation. It sounds like they did neither.

Sorry you had a waste of an appointment.

i would have killed someone! Paying $30 to confirm information I'm sure you didn't have to pay for that. Did they even touch you? Call and get that money back!

Can I really ask for my money back? I didn't think they'd even consider it.

They didn't TOUCH me or even look at me.

Literally, all I did was go into an office and get asked "is this still the same? is this still the same?"

I DO NOT GET why they couldn't have done that over the phone. They didn't even set up my next appointments, they're just going to RECOMMEND to my OBGYN when to send me back. total BS

If I were you I'd call the OB first thing in the morning and ask if that sounds right.
Cause honestly it sounds like whoever was "confirming" your info was going to pocket that money.
I'd demand your money back from that company and demand that your OB send you to a legitimate place so you can be prepared IF something IS wrong with your baby and you shouldn't have to wait to find that out when you find out the sex!!
Thats actually morally wrong and I am mad for you Jenny!
Do something.... PLEASE!

This was the same place I went for Holden, AT my hospital (they rent out office space, I don't think these people are actually employed by the hospital) and they didn't pull this crap on me last time.

The geneticist was the SAME person as with Holden, it's not as if it was someone new who didn't know my info. GAH i'm just so mad!

Oh, and the part that bugs me is I think she was totally wrong about how PKD works. Since my whole family is effected, i've ALWAYS been told that if YOU don't have it, your children can't have it- as you can't be a carrier.
I was told that when I was pregnant with Holden by this woman.

Now she's saying even if I don't have it, my kids have a 1 in 4 chance.. i've NEVER heard that before. She also said i'm probably going to develop cysts even without PKD just because my mom had it....as far as I know- if you develop them, you have PKD
wth is wrong with this woman? i'm livid.

Jenny, there is no way they should have charged you for that visit. I'd ask for a refund. Did you write them a check? If so and they refuse to refund your money I'd put a stop payment on the check.

no I paid with my debit card

i'm definitely calling my Ob tomorrow, but my guess is they'll say I have to pay for just SEEING the geneticist, even though she told me absolutely NOTHING I didn't know, didn't write ANYTHING new down, and I didn't get a freakin' scan.
