Since some of us are still deciding on names, I thought I'd share this one....

We all know how popular it is to come up with creative ways to spell names. Well, I heard one the other day that blew my mind!! It is quite funny and also sad at the same time because this child will forever have to correct people. A friend of mine is an elementary school teacher and has a little girl in her class with the name Le-a. I thought this was a creative/dumb way of spelling Leah or Laya. My friend pronounced it Leah and she was wrong. Very, very wrong. The mother called her, very upset because she mispronounced her daughter's name. It's pronounced..........Ledasha.

So, have any of you come accross terrible names that stick out in your minds?

That is pretty ridiculous.

I think my favorite from my teaching days is Semaj, which is James spelled backwards.

OH man I'm having a brain fart now..

OH one, recent, the mans name was pronounced SHI THADE( I like Indian, A like age, silent E) but it was spelled SH!THEAD(insert "I" were the exlamation mark is). I don't know how they called his name..lol

She told me another recently. can't remember off the top of my head.

Tami, we have a Justin Case in our family too. i don't think it was done on purpose though.lol

My sister was telling me about the family that wanted to name their son Meconium. They'd heard it... hmmm... somewhere... on the way to the delivery room and thought it had a nice ring to it.

When I worked in L&D, one of my jobs was to fill out and submit birth certificates for the newborns. I will never forget these two: Sexy Sandy and Endless Love. They are first names for both little girls...they had middle names but, I don't remember them. I thought they were so completely ridiculous, I asked the moms if they were sure they wanted to give these names to their babies and had they thought of what it would be like for them growing up? It didn't change their minds. Both thought they were naming their girls the most beautiful names in the world. Another mom thought Placenta was pretty but, the nurses were able to convince her otherwise.

Those are pretty wild!

My brother swore for years that his firstborn son would be Obadiah Melroy.

His firstborn is now safely named Shane Dale

My BFF was an ER tech for many years in Louisville KY....the most remembered name from his years seeing new babies...Mississippi Jones. We laugh about it all the time and it is the standard by which all ridiculous names are measured...the only one worse?...Tankazz Brown. An old co-worker of his that is still at that same hospital....called to let him know, Mississippi had finally been trumped.

Wow. Thats why people suggest you decide on names before the pain meds! Yikes, poor kids!

People do such weird things. There was a family at my school with a boy and a girl in different grades named Prince and Princess. Not as strange as some others, but still...

DH and I are totally planning on printing a couple of fake baby announcements (I'm designing and printing my own) that have a ridiculous name on them to send to a few choice friends as a joke. But we're going to choose a name that's a tiny bit plausible, like Barnaby or something.

Yep, I've heard of one.

I had a teacher tell us back in high school of a girl he taught with the name - get ready for it...

FEMALE.

Except it isn't pronounced how we think it's pronounced. It's pronounced feh-molly (like tamale - the mexican food?)

The parents couldnt' figure out what to name their child, so they just left it that way since back then, they named the babies Female Smith, or Male Doe (today, they do baby girl, or baby boy).
