We do pay pretty high taxes here in Canada (the percentage is based on your income), but considering the free health care and the quality of public education, I don't personally have a problem with it. Of course it'd be nice to pay less!
I guess it could be seen 2 ways.
1. Pay high taxes and get the free health care and good public education
2. Pay less taxes, and use the money saved for health care and private school (given you don't like the public school in your area)
Yuk. I don't get paid either. We have to use up all our PTO and then we accumulate "extended illness bank" and you have the be there for 5 years to accumulate 6 weeks of time off for illness/birth. I only have 3 weeks, but OH and KY law states that up to 12 weeks must be granted if the employee wishes. So it looks like the maternity leave will mostly be unpaid.
