I dunno how many of you know about Bellas "bluing" and heart issue.
Short story... she will turn blue on her limbs and sometimes from her nose down on her face. It seems to happen just out of nowhere for no reason and when ot does happen she is fine. It stops and thats it. But its a few times throughout the day.
So we had gotten an echo and an EKG... the cardio said that it was normal, she is fair skinned, and that she does have a premature beat to her heart. And that was that... i figured okay nothing to worry about.
Well we saw her regular doc tuesday for another listen and he is not comfy with not having an explanation for the bluing and such. So he said that he wants her to see a pediatric cardiologist. Okay.
they called me tuesday shortly after the appointment and said she is to be up north at the childrens hopsital (2 hours away) friday morning 8 am. I was like whoa... um could it be bumped back maybe a little and they said no its an urgent rush.
Im sure all is fine... but it kinda put me in a tizzy being worried again.
Not to mention the logistics of actually getting to the appointment. We will have to leave here at 6am.... the 3 big kids have to be up and ready to go by the time we leave so they can wait for their ride at 7:40..... I don't like the idea of that... but we have no choice. i even thought of taking them out of school for the day but they all have a field trip.
The appointment is suppose to take 2 to 3 hours. Bella does NOT do well with the doctors. She freaks out. Even when its not an appointment for her... the minute they call us back she starts flipping out. When it is an appointment for her, she will grab onto me for dear life and climb me like a monkey. So im stressed that she is gonna be like that and I cannot calm her.
Please pray that all is fine and that things go smooth and stress free.
Also. I went to get her films from the hospital yesterday morning (mind you I found out I needed to get them the afternoon before, too late to do anything) and they told me it could take a day or 2. Um. I need them TODAY!!!! So I am gonna give them till about 10 to call me, if they haven't I will call and see whats up. We have to take those with us when we go up there.
Oh Jenn, I totally know how nervous you are!! When Emily was born, all was good and on the day I was to be checked outof the hospital, my bags were packed, I was literally sitting on the bed, dressed, Emily dressed and ready to go. The Ped came in and this is the exact conversation...
Ped: Are you sure you want to go home today?
Me: Um, Yeah
Ped: Ok, we can sign you out but the baby will be staying.
Me: WHAT? WHY? WHAT'S WRONG?
Ped: She has a hole in her heart.
Ped WALKS OUT.....
I lost it!! I started shaking and panicking and crying. DH took off after the Ped. He came back and said they'd be right back. Finally a nurse came in and explained the problem, like a human.
She said They did the check up on Em and the Ped heard a heart murmur. So they needed to do more testing on her. She said, it's fairly common and I shouldn't worry and she was sure everything was ok. She said that a pediatric u/s tech was coming the following morning from Rainbows Babies and Children to see her and that's why we needed to stay overnight again.
So ofcourse, I stayed in the hospital. That entire night I cried so hard and wouldn't eat, that was my baby, my perfect little baby they were trying to tell me something was wrong with.
So they did their u/s on her and to do so had to give her "sugar water" to keep her calm. DH and I stood at the nursery window the entire time, staring at the u/s, trying to see something. So, finally the ped u/s Dr came in and talked to us. Drew us a picture and told us that she did indeed have a hole in her heart but it wasn't a problem. That usually the hole is there in utero and closes right after birth and that hers just hadn't closed yet. He said he saw it ALL the time, it's NOT life threatening (at that point, I started bawling because I was so relieved) and just to have her checked every few months until it closed.
We did have to take her to the Cleveland Clinic for an EKG and another u/s on her heart. It's NOT fun to see your little baby laying there, crying and you can't grab them. But she's perfectly fine now, hole is closed and she's perfect!!
Those few months though and especially those first few days were the scariest moments of my life!!
So, I really do understand your fears and worries. My thoughts will be with you tomorrow!! Don't be surprised if they decide to put her under to do their tests. They told me if Em didn't calm down they'd have to. Just have faith she'll be perfectly fine!!! T&P!!
My t&p's are with you! I'm sure the doctors scheduled your appt so early cause thats the slot they leave open for last minute patients and otherwise you'd be waiting weeks to get in. I used to work the reception desk at a doc's office and thats how we worked (don't take it as there is an emergency with Bella). Can your three older kids sleep at a friends house the night before so you don't have to worry about them?
Could the specialists office call your doctors office to get them to release the films to you earlier? Sometimes they'll rush faster if another office calls.
Good luck and I pray everything goes smoothly tomorrow. Let us know how things go.
