Mine constantly feel engorged- not to the extremely painful point... they just feel constantly full. My nips are a little scabbed over too-- I've been using the lanolin but not as much as I should. I'm thinking about pumping to get some of this out. How long is it good for? I guess I could freeze it. I'd like to hear how others are doing.

mine were like that in the beginning too and i asked my LC about it. She said if i planned on going back to work and wanted to freeze some milk now to go ahead and pump and freeze. If i didn't plan on building up a stock to ignore it because otherwise i am telling body to produce more and i was not going to use it. I would say if you are going back to work or even if you just want some BM to bottle feed later on then pump.

According to medela its good for 5-7 days in fridge after its been pumped.

i actually found that the alternative method to lanolin (expressing some milk and rubbing it on your nipple) to be more effective for me. i had lanolin but never seemed to have it with me every time i nursed because i never seemed to have the chance to nurse in the same spot every time I nursed.......So i started using express milk and letting them air dry.

ughhhh, Brooklyn is only 2 days old and my nips are killing me! My milk isnt in yet but she is a marathon nurser. She's latching good i think its just normal soreness. Im using the lansinoh after every feeding, i think its helping prevent them from getting worse. I should have used it right from the get-go but i procrastinated. Im really worried about engorgement. Last time i was so engorged that it was hard for Chelsea to latch because my boobs were so rock hard! I hate the first two weeks of BFing. So un-enjoyable on so many levels

My nips are fine, but I'm having some engorgement issues. I have no pump, so I've been hand expressing a little before each feeding and freezing it. I think I'm going to get a manual pump tomorrow. My major issues have been having a very forceful let-down. Rogen has to unlatch because it's flowing faster then he can swallow it, and then we both get soaked. He chokes sometimes too.

We're doing okay. The 1st week my nipples were more sensitive and I was engorged for the 1st 2 weeks. Now my milk seems to have sorted itself out. I also have a strong letdown and it's worse in the mornings and poor Maddie kinda chokes on it. Then she's frustrated at night because my milk isn't as fast as she likes it and she's going through a growth spurt this week.

I have to ditto the expressing milk and letting it air dry on the nipples. Works great and like I said before...breast milk is amazing and has so many uses!!!

mine are ok now but in the beginning i thought it would have been less painful to electrocute myself than bf. i use lanolin when i get sore because Hurricane doesnt latch on the right way.

The 1st week was pretty bad, but worse last time than this time. I used landolin right off the get go and only had a few days of bad nips. I have only had random engorgment nothing too bad, which actually makes me a little nervous cause last time I ended up with supply problems and I worry it will happen again. Katelyn has this funny latch, at the beginning of each feeding on each side she will latch and unlatch several times until she gets going, I think I have a strong let down and she has to stop and take a break, she does choke and have pull away at times during a feeding too.

My tatas are very sore...esp my nips. I had no idea what I was doing in the hospital, and finally had to have a lactation consultant come in to help me. The damage had been done to my left one as he wasn't latching right. It's starting to get better though...slowly but surely. My milk is just starting to come in but when I pump, I barely get an ounce from both. So I've had to supplement a little with formula to keep him full.

My nips have been killing me too. They are sore and kinda scabby. He has a good latch, so I think it's normal. He wants to eat so much at night, they never get a break. It seems he uses them to soothe at night not just to eat. I might try a soothie pacifier tonight to see if that helps, even though I hate to do that. He's a little monster at night, snorting around for the boob.
My milk started to come in yesterday, but I haven't experienced much engorgement. Maybe because he eats so often. Hope things feel better soon.

I got mastitis about a week ago and my nipple on that side is stillhealing I think the infection is gone but the nipple got so irritated now it hurts to latch on. It doesn't hurt anymore once she gets going though.
