On the Wednesday Feb 4th I went into L&D because I was having issues with my seizure disorder. I had had about 3 seizures that day and I was only starting to feel worse and worse. Something definitely was not right and because of my seizures I was told any time I had one to go straight to L&D to be monitored because they can have an effect on the baby.
So we got there around 7pm and got hooked up to all the monitors and everything. Of course once we were there my head was starting to feel a bit better. I still had a headache but nothing as severe as it was at home. But the monitor was picking up that Shyanns heartbeat was on the low side, It was dipping below 100bpm at some points and they were worried about that. So they hooked me up to IV fluids for a while to see what that did. As I was watching the monitors I noticed they were picking up contractions, I wasn't really feeling them and they were not bad at all but they were there and they were pretty consistent. I asked the nurse about it and she said that they would check me and then in a few hours they would check me again and if I was still contracting and my cervix was changing they would probably admit me. Well I knew that with the fluids the contractions were probably going to stop but to my surprise they didn't. When they checked me the first time in triage I was 2cm and then about an hour later they checked me again and I was 3cm so because in that short of a time because I had such a change w/o walking or doing anything at all they said they were going to admit me and I would be having a baby that night. I was really surprised and totally not ready lol.
They got me back to my L&D room which was so nice, It was one of the bigger rooms and it was just gorgeous. I texted my mom who was working overnights that night at work and told her that I was in labor. She was actually able to get another manager to cover for her and she came up to the hospital around 10 or 11pm. The doctor came in and checked me again shortly after my mom got there and I was 4cm. They decided to break my water for me which was the weirdest thing I have EVER felt and even with the towel between my legs I could feel the stuff keep coming out of me with every contraction it was just weird lol. After that the contractions started to hurt like hell and I was holding out the best I could for the epidural. I knew I wanted one and the nurse knew I wanted one I just wanted to make it as long as I could w/o it. The one thing about my labor that I didn't like was the feeling like I was pressured into getting it when I did. I probably could have held out longer but every time she came to check me she would ask if I wanted them to page anesthesia and it was getting annoying. So when she came to check me at about 2 am I was 6cm and I finally said to get me the epi. So I got it and it was awesome lol, I will deffinetly have another one of those with my next baby.
They let us all get some rest since I had some relief from the contractions and they didn't come in to check me again until about 6am ish. I was still at 6 cm and when the nurse checked me she said she didn't feel a head anymore. At first I didn't know what to think but she said she would get the doctor to come and see what she thought. So at 6:30 DH and my mom went to go get some breakfast in the cafeteria and they left me alone. Well the doctor came in with an u/s and confirmed that little miss had decided to flip breach. Then the doctor told me they did not do breach deliveries and that they were going to prep me for a c section. So of course I was alone and had no idea when my mom and DH were going to get back and of course their cell phones had no service in the cafeteria so the texts I sent them they never got. I was getting all this info on my own totally overwhelmed and I was scared that DH was not going to get back in time.
They did get back in time thank god, only about 10 minutes before we went down to the OR. They took me right in and gave me more drugs, I don't even remember all of what they gave me but I was feeling good lol. And there was one guy in there that I don't even know what he was there for lol, he pretty much stayed right by my head the whole time and he talked to me and was so nice. If I would have remembered his name or who he was I would have sent him a thank you card because he was great. I got the shakes pretty bad which I learned was normal with a c section and he was doing all he could to make me feel better. Once Shyann was out DH went over to get a look at her and get pictures and everything and once again I was alone. I guess they joked that they saw a penis on her when they took her out but I don't remember that. The guy up by my head was walking me through what they were doing to her since I really couldn't see over the sheet very well and finally they brought her over to me. Holding her was weird but it was so great at the same time. We got a few pictures of the 3 of us while they were closing me up and then I was headed to recovery.
Once we got into recovery they let me nurse her which was awesome and she did really good right away at it. She was latched for at least 20 minutes on both sides I just wish I could have held out and actually breastfed her later on. We were in recovery for 2 hours which was horrible. I was only supposed to be there for an hour but for some reason I was there longer. We got stuck in the tiny space in the recovery room and it was so hard to fit us in there and it was only me, DH, my mom, and of course Shyann but she didn't take up that much room. They brought in another lady and she had the bigger area for only her and her hubby. Eventually they allowed her other son to come in there and of course he was coughing and sneezing and I was so anxious to get the heck out of there.
Shyann Marie was born February 5th at 7:31am at 6lbs 13oz and 19 3/4 inches long.
