I had to go into the doctor today for an unscheduled appointment. Yesterday I passed what looked like could be my mucus plug. I called the nurse this morning and she asked me to come in. I am not dilated and my water has not broken but they are not sure if what I saw was my mucus plug or not. So they just want me to take it easy.

Anyways, last time I went in (two weeks ago) my baby's heart rate was around 140 ... which is where it was a the ultrasound a month before. Before that it was going down about 10 to 15 beats per minute per month. It started at 180 at the first ultrasound. Well, this time it was up to somewhere between 145-150. I was told the reason it was going down was because he was growing and it would most likely settle around 140... So why did it go up? That seems like a big jump for 2 weeks. What would cause this? When she said that sometimes babies are sleeping and their heart rates vary like ours do... but he wasn't sleeping either time, in fact he was moving around both times.

Heartrates vary big time during the entire pregnancy. I wouldn't worry about it.

If I remember correctly I think Spencer's heartrate was going up and down at diff. dr visits. Like one visit it would be 150, then the next month it was 160. I don't think it's anything to worry about. I think they only worry about the heartrate when it jumps up to like 190 or something. That could indicate fetal stress. But 145-150 is totally normal.

it's normal for it to have variations. In fact that's something they look for.

The other girls are right that the heart rate can vary. One time he may have just woken up or been getting sleepy and this time maybe he was being much more active.

I agree with everything that's been said. The heartrate tends to vary depending on what the baby is doing - ie being active, sleeping, etc.

First off, try to not freak out too much about the mucus plug thing... it does regenerate itself... and doesn't always indicate labor is soon to come.... But do try to take it easy my dear.

As for the heart rate... my babies have always had heartrate that were pretty much all over the place, anywhere from 120s up to 180s... I wouldnt' worry
