has any own bought one of their own? Im debating over the pros and cons... pro being I wouldnt have to wear a gown somebody already messed in and some of the ones that i have looked at online have snaps over the front if you plan to BF. Cons... would be you would probably have to buy at least 2 then because im sure you'd mess the first one and need a freash one after delivery. What are everyones thoughts on this. I have found some for in the price range of $30 which i dont know im still kinda iffy about wearing someone elses gown...

Granted the gowns do have stains on them but they are cleaned and sanitized BUT.... I have read that wearing your own gown helps you relax more during delivery and makes your feel more comfortable or at home if you want to call it...
I plan on looking for one online or just buying an over-size night shirt from WalMart and just taking my own house robe..... and of course my slippers....
Well this might be a stupid question too, but i heard that you still make messes even after delivery so is wearing a nice nighty from home even the way to go... i think i like the oversized shirt....but then what if you plan to breast feed?

Honestly, the gowns I had at my hospital were very clean. I was stuck there for three weeks and didn't have clothes at all at first. Plus, it was just easier to wear their gowns than worry about laundry while stuck in the hospital. (Different if you are just there a couple of days). Anyway, like I was saying, the gowns I had were all very clean. You will likely get blood, among other things, all over the nice gown. I would also recommend older pajamas to sleep in at the hospital after delivery. You may leak through the pads and then you'd ruin your nice pajamas, too. Just my opinion, though. I do think the special gowns are very cute, but honestly not necessary.

I have to agree with Nichole. I can't see spending the money on your own hospital gown. If your hospital is using stained gowns I would have to question a few other things too! I think your own not so nice pj's after delivery is reasonable but why waste the money on something you know you will probably ruin during delivery? I'll stick to their gowns. That's my opinion! LOL

I hate the hospital gown I had to wear last time...it was huge. But I don't think we'll have the $ just to puchase a special gown for this time around...who knows.
As for pjs after delivery ect. I leaked all over mine and they were brand new! So I am planning on wearing whatever they give me for as long as possible and I"ll just bring slippers and my robe.

I think it's a waste of money to buy one when the hospital will provide them. They wash and sanitize them in huge laundry facilities (my boyfriend worked in one for a nursing home once) and trust me they're clean.

Also, if you end up with one that is stained (you'll get a chance to look at it before you put it on), ask the nurse for a different one. I'm sure they'll understand!

I had planned on using theirs, but will definitely request a different one if it looks dirty! I don't see buying something new or even wearing something of my own when I'm pretty sure it will get stained. I may bring a pair of pj's, but if I'm bleeding a lot and staining their gowns, I probably won't put them on.
Honestly the gown i got at the hospital was quite clean (stainfree) and actually pretty comfy as well, and I would not want to wash the mess out of my own stuff.
After deleivery I did wear my own gown from home, though not a brand new one because you do tend to have a heavy flow after delivery.
I'm worried about freezing in a hospital gown- did you ladies find that you were cold in just a gown? BTW- I am ALWAYS cold! Can you just wear a sweatshirt or longsleeve shirt over the gown?
Seriously I am such a cold wimp that all I can think if I need a C-Section is how much I was shivering after last time I had surgery- I swear it took like 8 hours for me to get warm again. I don't know why that thought haunts me more than the painful recovery from 8.5 hour surgery and 10 month rehab to put my shoulder back together- but all I keep thinking about is being so darn cold!
So- any tips on staying warm enough in the hospital?
MRM, hospitals are cold to held keep bacteria at bay. I get cold easily too. Unless you have an IV that a jacket would interfere with, I've never been told I couldn't wear one. You can also asked for a warmed blanket to keep around your shoulders.
Certain anesthesias can cause you to feel cold, like ice.

i have the same issue, I found that wearing warm socks helped allot, they did not let me wear anything with long sleeves because it could interfere with the blood pressure monitors( not entirely sure if it's normal to have to wear that the whole time, I did though) I did bring my favorite fleece blanket from home though and that helped allot, hope this helps
I'll be using the hospitals, i haven't came across anytime that i have gotten a stained on. In my eyes its a waste of money to buy your own, after i deliver i usually get up and when they allow shower, and put some pj's on from home. So i will only be using the gown to deliver in
I think I will use the hospital one for the delivery, but bring some PJs for after. My biggest worry about wearing what they provide- per above is freezing my butt off! So I will bring some supplemental stuff from home to make sure I'm warm enough.
I was so hot after labor and my birth that I wished I could have run around naked. I had Mag. Sulfate, though, during my labor and for 24 hours afterward, so I think that was the main reason I was so hot. I had the a/c down to the lowest setting (below 50), a fan blowing directly on me, and ice packs all over me, and I was still burning up. Everyone who was in the room with me was wrapped in blankets.
