So my friend wants to treat me to a pedicure but I've been thinking. Someone once told me that their midwife told them that a pedicure could possibly start labor. I was like, no way. Then I started reading about the reflexology suff and now I'm not so sure I was right?? I know a lot of people get pedicures and nothing happens, but a lot of women drink castor oil as well and nothing happens. Its all a case by case thing. Sometimes natural remedies work, sometimes they dont.

I have absolutely NO interest in going into labor before Sept 5th. period. So should I skip the pedicure?? I really want it!! I deserve it!!!

Nah, don't skip it... It's the Achilles tendon that is used as a "natural inducer" if squeezed tight enough; there's thought that it can bring on strong contractions. With all of my pregnancies I've periodically treated myself to a pedicure, and the hubby & I will be going for one in a couple of weeks!!

ETA: Induce Labor Naturally

Acupressure Points

  • "The Big and High" point is located directly above the back of the heel on your foot. To find the point measure up four fingers from your heel into your Achilles' Tendon. This is most useful acupressure point to induce labor. To help induce labor rub this point continually for about a minute at a time. Applying pressure to this point helps prime the cervix and strengthen weak contractions. This point also will help the baby descend towards the pelvis.
  • "The Adjoining Valley" is located in the webbing of the hand between the thumb and forefinger. It is located near the junction of the bones of the thumb and forefinger. The correct pressure point will feel very tender. This point is used to stimulate the large intestine meridian which surrounds a portion of the uterus. To stimulate contractions rub this point
  • "The Shoulder Well" point is located at the high point of your shoulder muscle. To find the spot measure four of your finger from the joint of your shoulder towards your neck. This point will be very tender. The Shoulder Well pressure point is great for managing pain.
Remember that not all pressure points work for everyone. Be sure to check with your healthcare professional prior to using acupressure points to stimulate contractions and do not use them before it is safe for you to give birth.
Note--- I did the thumb and forefinger one.. ALOT trying to get Kaelyn out... and it brought on NO contractions!

But again-- when speaking about NATURAL INDUCTION methods... it's not going to just 'jump-start' labor... If your body is ready and you are practicing these methods... it could *help* your body do what it needs to do.

I already have contractions. Nothing new for me. I think I want my medicine back. I've already had a ridiculous amount today, but nothing regular, nothing crippling. I just LOVE how my body labors.

Not to mention that pedicurists, and massage therapists are trained in which points to avoid in pregnant women. I wouldn't worry, I'd go an enjoy it! I've been going a lot this pregnancy, and am hoping to go at least one more time before delivery!

Whoop. Going to get a pedicure.

If I go into labor I'm coming after you Susan.

J/k. I'm excited to not be confined to the bed w/ pills anymore.

I was thinking of getting one this afternoon, glad I read this :-) My poor toes look atrocious and usually I maintain them much better than I have been this summer - I still have red toes with 4th of July stars and sparkles on them.

I am still going to get one too

I got a pedicure on Mother's Day and I felt amazing lol. As a massage therapist I agree with Susan, don't let them put pressure or linger on the heel too long or the achille's. You should be fine and the boost it gives you is amazing! Enjoy and I wanna see the color you pick out!
