So with all this mind bending chaos that I was going through having been under 24hr observation at the hospital..... during the night (shift change) I got a young nurse who came in and asked me if I was having any contractions. I told her "NO!.... just the typical Braxton Hicks which are normal" she says.... "its not normal to have Braxton Hicks this early, you shouldn't be having them until your at least 36wks!" She looked shocked and concerned!!! I disagreed of course....and told her.... "No!.... its actually quite normal to have them now, and they even picked one up during my ultrasound a few minutes ago!" She continued to argue that its NOT normal!

ANYWAY.... I talked to my doctor about it because she was so persistent..... (and though I knew she was wrong) I wanted to get his thoughts on it. He said.... "of course its normal, if you were in the first trimester it wouldn't be, however, your almost in the 3rd and its very normal to be having them!"

I told him to go have a discussion with this young nurse (not because it was anything MAJOR to me personally) but if this was something she had thrown on a new mom that didn't know any better.... she could have caused much stress and worry for nothing! Shouldn't a nurse working in labor and delivery... "KNOW" what she is talking about?!! I can only imagine the other things that she has mixed up or doesn't really know! Where do they get these degrees anymore? The Cracker Jack box???? LOL

I admit, it was nothing serious to be wrong about.... but when your pg and stressed out over the outcome of your pregnancy..... this kinda thing could cause un-needed stress and worry to an already "best herself mom"

I'm glad you knew enough not to be worried, but you're right, for a first timer who doesn't know any better, all that is going to do is add extra stress! No one wants to be told "that's not normal" during pregnancy! I'm glad you talked to your Dr about it and hope he speaks to her.

I would have been so annoyed! Any book you pick up on pregnancy tells you that BH are normal long before 36 weeks. It does make you wonder what else she is screwing up. I'm glad that you knew better than to take her word for it! I do hope the doctor took the time to straighten her out.

I would have been so mad! Only because she's a nurse, and should know this!

Yes! You would "think" that she would "know" but obviously not! She was quite catty about it too! I wasn't bothered by her lack of knowledge over the issue... I just brushed her off really. However, the more I laid there thinking about it.... the more I thought about someone else being told that, that didn't know any better..... and that's why I told my doctor. He is always running back and forth from his office (just yards away from Hospital) back to the labor and delivery floor..... and I knew he would talk to her about it, so that she didn't freak someone out someday!

I agree with you a 100%. Me being a first time mommy and not knowing anything, I would have been freaking out! Im sure DH would have been there as well and he knows less than I do, so he probably would have thought I was dying!!!!
Hopefully your Dr. sat down with her and talked about some of the basics...ie...how a baby is born, and that it really doesn't come out of your butt.... you know just go through some of the basics with her.... just in case.
