I'm probably just desperate to get this little guy out - but I think I might let the dr. do the membrane strip tomorrow I don't know... we're going to talk about it & the gel.... and who knows I could have a baby this weekend!!

who has had the strip and was it horrible? Did your water break spontaneously within the next few days? Did it start contractions? Or did it just do nothing at all?

I had my membranes stripped and didn't have contractions till two days later and I labored fast. My water broke spontaneously during labor when I was about 7 cm. It does hurt a bit to have your membranes stripped but it's not too bad and it's over pretty fast.

Well, I've never had it done but it can't hurt worse than child birth.

With DD my water broke 6 days later after having it done...with DS I had my membranes stripped like 3 times and it did nothing...so it just depends on if your body is ready or not...and it was uncomfortable but it didn't hurt.

I have never had it done either but I might ask at my next appointment if I am not dilated again.

I've never had it done but a friend of mine just had it done a few weeks ago. She went into labor later that night but ended up in labor for 31 hours. An OB at her midwife's office did it. When her midwife found out she was upset and told my friend if she hadn't had it done she probably wouldn't have ended up with such a long labor because her body wasn't truly ready.

This is exactly what I am afraid of.

I think I'm just going to wait it out. If he thinks I need help because of the size of the baby, then I will try the Gel - On my due date.

geez...glad you posted this. we haven't discussed doing this, but i'd rather not if it could result in a super long labor.
