For those of you who have had perineal stitches before...how long did they take to heal? Did you see the stitches when they came out?

stitches down there are usually disolving ones, so you never see them. and i cant remember how long it took to heal. i remember that it was healed before i thought it was. it feels weird for a little while. but i tihnk it heals pretty fast besides that fact.

I had a first degree tear with my first, they never bothered me but I had DH look at them for me at one point I think I was around 1 week PP and he said he could still see them there so not really sure when they went away.

With dd I had a 2nd degree tear (almost third degree) and the stitches were all out at about 5 1/2 weeks. I really didn't notice them falling out - except for one.

I was wondering that same thing. I'm too scared to really venture down there, but SO looked the other day and said they were still there. I dont feel any discomfort, so I'm hoping they are healing.

I was an unlucky one and still had stitches down there at the 10 week mark, but even my OB thought it was abnormal. kept having to go back to the doctor to make sure nothing was wrong. I also had pain until 13 weeks.
I remember peeing and wiping and seeing stitches at about 10 weeks too, other than that I never saw any.

This time around the pain is not as bad at all (although I have a 2nd degree tear, the entire episiotomy scar from my first tore), so i'm assuming it will be a more normal recovery. I think the nurses in the hospital said 6 weeks for total healing.. but they all like to say different things!

Mine have always come out around 10 days to 2 weeks. Sometimes you see a little bit of the stitch on some TP, it looks like a really thick thread.
