Cherie's had a fever since last night. I've been alternating Tylenol and Motrin, but I've still been having a hard time keeping the fever down. It seems to spike before the 3 hour point to give more. I paged the on-call dr and she told me to up the Motrin to 1.875, but the Tylenol needs to stay the same dose (.8). The highest her fever has gotten is 103.7 (102.7 under the arm, 104.7 rectally.) Cherie is in bed now, but is due for more Motrin at 9. Should I wake her to give it to her? If so, should I wake her at all through the night after I go to bed? This is assuming she stays asleep. Lol. At 8, I'll call the dr office to make a sick appt, they are open on Sundays for sick visits.
I don't have any experience in this area but I'm sure somebody will pop in with some advice. Is there a telehealth number you can call in the meantime to ask? Does she have any other symptoms? Sounds like when Mak had Roseola when she was 6 months. Hope she's feeling better soon and the fever gets under control.
Well, poor baby was up a ton last night, so I didn't have to worry about waking her for meds. I think the latest dose of Tylenol has finally kicked in. I put her in her swing so I could eat breakfast and she's sticking her tongue out and smiling at me. Poor thing looks so pathetic, though. I hope I can get her right in this morning. I'm calling exactly at 8. She doesn't really have any other symptoms other than being slightly stuffy and a little tired and fussy, but I'm sure that's from the fever.
Nicole, will you be Cherie's doctor? The dr thinks it's Roseola. Hopefully the fever will break sometime today! He said the goal is to just keep the fever below 101, since the fever means the immune system is doing its job, so it doesn't need to be gone completely.
i wake them when its high like that,im too scared not to.i sure hope she gets better.gracie had strep throat last week and sara has croup this week so i feel your pain..HUGS!

Glad to hear she got in. Unexplained fevers with no other symptoms I always suspect Roseola. Mak had her fever for 3 days then it broke suddenly. The next day (12hrs after the fever broke) her entire body was covered in a red rash. It looked like red marbling (like when you're cold). It's not an itchy rash and it doesn't bother them but once the rash appears they're no longer contagious. Sadly though, during the 14 day incubation period and during the fever they are contagious.
It's also called 4th disease because it's like the 4th most common childhood illness. Many kids never even get the rash but they have the fever and parents just assume it's teething or a cold. Glad to hear she's feeling a bit better. It's a concerning thing to have happen.
What I don't get is, when I was reading about it, they say it's thought to mostly only effect kids because almost everyone gets it and builds immunity, so why wouldn't she get immunity from me? Just pondering.
how on earth did that youngin get roseola? lol poor little crazy hair! i hope she feels better soon! shes too cute to be sick
if either of mine get a high fever, i wake to give meds. the last time i had to do it was a couple years ago when justin got the flu. his fever just wouldnt stay down and ran in the 103's for around 4 days. ugh it was scary. all he did was sleep and cry
