While eating lunch with sophia, chris and I were discussing how she is slimming. I am worried she isnt eating enough..some days she skips meals..ie: refuses to eat a meal. She IS really active..and I know that plays a part..
BUT my MIL looked up (using google) the caloric intake a 9 month old should have at her weight and height...anywhere from 790 to 1130..1130 being active.
I have not been counting her calories. Half the time we do finger foods..so who knows how much actually gets into her..and I dont really look at the calories when I buy her food. I look at nutritional value..but not really caloric intake.
I checked her formula..and it is 67.9 per 100 Ml. she still is only doing like 15-20 oz a day..335 calories a day at least..I promise there is no way she makes up the difference in food. the heaviest thing she eats is some oatmeal cereal with yogurt. I try to give her at least a slice of whole wheat, or grain bread a day..but my floor wears alot of food.
She only BF's twice a day now..in the morning and at night. So I am so worried she isnt getting nearly enough of what she needs. She mostly eats veggies..some fruit..but she refuses most of it. And she isnt a big meat fan, though I try to always offer it.

Does anyone know anything about how many calories a baby should be getting a day? If it is something I should really be concerned with?

Personally, No.
I dont' think you need to be bothered with counting calories for LO. you have enough on your plate right now!
It's totally normal for babies at this stage to start slimming out, it's just the course they take. I think as long as she isn't showing signs of hunger and you aren't stopping a meal when she's clearly not full/satisfied, isn't LOSING alot of weight (rather than just shifting body shape) then I think you're fine. Sophia was also very much on the larger size as a baby, so I can see why this change seems so drastic to you, whereas my skinny minny it isn't likely as obvious.

I personally wouldn't give it a second thought.

babys and kids will eat when they are hungry, seriously if she is hungry she will eat. She will start to thin out now that she is getting more active. Brianna skips meals sometimes too my boys did and still do as well. I wouldn't worry about it to much, as long as she is still growing and is content with what she is eating I wouldn't give it a second thought

Babys and kids, unlike adults know when they are hungry and when they are full. She will be fine. I've never heard of counting calories for a healthy child (a Failure to thrive case would be different)

I agree with all the posters before me and also remember that although most babies triple their birth weight during their first year of life that average yearly weight gain for a baby/toddler in their 2nd year of life (actually up till about 8 or 9 years old) is only 3 to 5 lbs!!! That's why almost all babies "suddenly" seem like they stop eating towards their first birthday, it's natures way of ensuring that they don't continue to gain to much weight into toddler hood!!!

^ yup. Also heard that kids seem less interested in their food at this stage- they're too busy learning to do things to think about eating!

If my MIL didnt mention it..It would never have occured to me. SO happy I was not neglecting her nutritionally by not paying attention to her caloric intake. It is so hard to get her to eat now..unless it is something I am eating and she wants. I swear the only way I get her to eat anymore is by eating with her..then I have to feed her with my spoon..or let her pick the food off. Otherwise she is just to busy.

I did the math and she is an oz off of her tripled birthweight. I do feel alot better. Thank you!!!!!!

I think I"d go crazy if I had to start thinking about D's caloric intake . When she is hungry, she will let you know. As they become more mobile, they slim out and that is normal.

Owen seems to hardly eat at all sometimes and has barely gained any weight since his 6 month appointment. the doctor was not at all worried and said he was perfectly healthy. She will let you know when she is hungry and when she isn't. Besides, have you ever tried to force feed an infant? It ain't happening
