We are having a really hard time with this because he hates having his teeth brushed. He holds his top lip over his teeth so we can't get in there, it's so frustrating! We have religiously brushed Keegan's teeth since he had his 1st one. And we used one of those finger-tip toothbrushes. Now that he has started to get a lot more teeth, we use a regular(toddler-size) toothbrush in the AM after breakfast & the finger-tip one still at night, BUT we just noticed this past week that there is like a build up of tarter or something on his teeth. I am so upset about this because of how much we brush. He hasn't even ever had any juice. He hasn't had a bottle since he turned 1 & he has never ever went to bed with a bottle or cup of any kind, so I am so confused! I actually made him a dentist appointment for this upcoming month, so hopefully they can give me some answers!

We compromise and I brush first then let Maddie brush. Shes reasonably good and opens up her mouth to let me do it but I can only get a few brushes in before she backs up and closes her mouth again.

Does he eat graham crackers or something similar? We thought Paige had tartar too but it turns out it was just the cracker left behind on her teeth. My MIL was giving her teething buscits and that was doing it too. You could scrap it with your fingers and it would come right off. Just a suggestion.
Paige was resistant at first, but we kept at it as part of her bedtime routine and now she is fine with it, but we ususally do the brushing. She likes the toothpaste so that helps too!

Oren gives us about 20 seconds- and then we're done. Definitely not long enough but we're working on it. We don't use toothpaste... maybe I should try.
Zoe only has two teeth. She likes to do it herself, sometimes I can hold her hand and brush for about a few seconds. She LOVES toothpaste, and it is this nasty stuff from the natural food store, LOL!!!!!!
I was reading an article today and it was talking about mommy regrets and one of those was not properly brushing their LOs teeth, and the resulting dental work later. I guess I'm just going to have to man-up and make her let me. I certainly would rather put her through that for a while then have to make her get fillings at four or five.
Shaye does it herself. She mainly just chews on it, but it gets her teeth pretty clean. We actually had the dentist look at her teeth recently and they said her teeth look great. Once she is a little older, I will brush her teeth.
I attempt to brush Luke's teeth every night but he doesn't like it. He likes to hold the toothbrush in his mouth and pretend he's brushing, but he doesn't get anything. When I try and help, he usually clamps his mouth shut! Sometimes he'll let me get the bottom two- for a few seconds. I'm lucky to get a few swipes on the top. I'm just going to keep trying and we'll get there eventually.

Success! I still let Paige use her toothbrush, but I got a finger brush thing. It took a few nights / mornings of her screaming while I was brushing and this morning and tonight, she just let me do it. I hope we keep it up. I really don't want to have to put her through dental work.
