We got home from a friend house late and I am so frazzled and tired I set Lily down on my bed and turned on her Elmo movie while I ran to use the bathroom fully intending on going back to get her and lay down until she fell asleep then pop back up and do my bible study. But I got distracted put the stuff away, had a couple cookies, texted a friend on the computer and 15 minutes later I go back in to lay down and Lily is conked out on my bed.

I feel like such a bad mom making my kid put herself to bed.

Aww don't feel bad! It's easy to get distracted by other things and that's good that she could fall asleep so fast!! I understand what you mean though, like you didn't get to officially say goodnight?

yeah that's exactly it!!

If she was used to being put down in her crib or on the bed to fall asleep on her own that'd be totally different.

Kylie has done that for naps a few times, and I feel the same way. I felt guilty that we didn't do the normal routine of putting her down, giving her a blankie, pacifier, but I think it is a good thing when they can put themselves to sleep.
