this has been going on for months now and ive tried everything i know and its not working.sari stays constipated i dont know how..she still nurses constantly, she eats grains,i giver a cup of apple juice mixed with prune everyday.i have tried feeding her raisins, kiwi, extra water i just dont get it.she used to just scream and now she just strains and strains.i end up having to give her the childrens rootbeer flavored laxative every 3 days usually.i dont want her to become dependent on that.what do i do?will the doc say anything other than try what i already have?we have also had to use the liquid suppositories, again i dont want her dependent on those either..she just looks so pityfull nd i feel so bad for not being able to help her

I really don't have any experience with that. The normal poop remedies seem to work for us. But if you're worried or think it's not right then I would call the doc anyways. Maybe there is a reason she's so constipated.
I have read somewhere that every 2-3 days can be normal for some (while some go everyday). So, that might be her normal, you know? I would worry with giving her something to make her go every few days, as her body might be getting be getting dependent on it (as you expressed). If it were me, I'd probably just give her juice (like you do) and make sure that she's getting plenty of water and fiber and stuff. Take the all natural route and see if her body doesn't regulate itself. Does she eat yogurt? Maybe try giving her yogurt daily and see if that helps things along?
Good luck! I hope she gets to being more regular. I have issues with this myself, so I can relate. It's NO fun.
When she goes poop how often is it? How long does she go without? If it's been going on for months and there's no change and it looks like she's got a high fibre diet and lots of liquids, the first thing that pops into my mind is blockage. Is something physically preventing her from going? On the one hand you don't want to sit on it and wait (Lord knows I'm guilty of that one because I hate taking them to the Dr for every little thing when it's something I know will resolve itself or there isn't much they can do) but you'd hate to leave it and have it turn into something worse or have it be the sign that something else is going on.
It's a tough call. Only you truly know the pain and discomfort she's going through. What's your gut saying?
I would guess it's most likely food allergies. I know several kids who have allergies to dairy, wheat, corn, etc. whose only clinical symptom was the inability to have a BM. I would definitely call your ped.
Hm.. instead of adding stuff to her diet, what about eliminating things? Emma gets constipated if she has too much dairy, or if she has yogurt every day for a few days. It's hard because all she likes to eat is cheese, yogurt, crackers, ect, lol. Maybe keep a food diary for her and see what foods shes eating lots of, and what you can cut out.
i agree with trying an elimination diet, something is going on in her body that isnt right. You shouldnt need all those things for something that is supposed to happen normally on its own, something is definitely affecting her system and making it not work properly.

she "tries" to go everyday...that said-she may get out a little ball today and tomorow and the next day after i have decided to give her the fletchers she will finally have a good movement.and when she tries..she TRIES..she will strain so hard that she will have like a little dot of colored liquid bout the size of a dime but nothing else.so its like shes so stopped up water is just going around?i know this sounds gross but im just trying to explain it right.i thought about the dairy too,she doesnt get much at all,she mite have a cup in the mornin and maybe one at night but it isnt everyday(she likes to have a sippy of choc-choc with the big kids).i got her some almond milk i will try that to see.do i need to just do the cheeses and things first or completely dairy?i hate reading lablesthanks for all your responses.

I'm glad you got it figured out! Maybe I should start giving Will milk... he has the opposite problem, he poops all the time!
As far as the hands down the diaper, Will does that a lot too. I just have to keep him in a onesie and pants. That usually does the trick. Anything that snaps in the crotch or is a one-piece, like footie pjs.
