How far in advance do you have to make your LOs appointments to get in?

Just wondering... I'm super annoyed at our doctors office.

I made an appointment a few weeks ago for Levi's 15 month checkup. Already late, but we've been so busy. I told the lady any day but Wednesdays, didn't have a calendar in front of me and didn't realize she booked it for next Wednesday .

So I try to reschedule today and the only time she has is in 3 more weeks.. after that it's a 3 month wait. I feel like such a loser... I started crying on the phone. Just because I'm going to have to be in there a ton right around then anyways for all the new baby's checkups. It's a huge hassle and they won't do them together. We go through this EVERY time I need to book something for him. I just can't schedule his appointments 3 months in advance. Is that normal?

I always schedule the kids at their previous appt in the first two years. Then with each of the boys I schedule it 4-8 weeks in advance. Otherwise I won't remember to do it until it's too late...

Why won't they schedule them together? That's just dumb! My Dr LOVES to do siblings at the same time. It's just easier.

I do the same as Nicole. I book for the 1st year for the next appt at the one I'm at. So at 6 months, I booked for 9 months.

I however, don't book too much in advance now because it only came back to bite me in the *** with Emily.

For her 2 year, I had it booked since her 18 month. Then 2 weeks before her appt, they called and canceled because the Dr was on vacation. But by that time, they didn't have any available until the END of AUGUST, her appt was for June 2nd!!!!!!
So the following year (last year) when I called to schedule her appt for JUNE, they wouldn't allow me to schedule until August again, saying that insurance wouldn't cover two in a year. ***????? THEY are the ones that messed it up, NOT me!! I got penalized for being organized and scheduled. It really ticks me off and I was literally just b*tching about this the other day to DH because her b-day is coming up again and I know I'm going to have the same freaking battle, AGAIN!!
DH said to schedule it for June and if they say they can't, tell them to do it anyway and we'll work with the insurance company to sort it out.
I'm worried because her Kindergarten shots have to be BEFORE she starts school and if it were in August, that'd be tough.

We had that problem with Thomas, we ended up doing the shots in Aug, and then the rest of the Appt after his bday--and they dated the shots for that day.

Well for milestone appointments i usually schedule at the previous appointment. So I scheduled her 15 month check up when she had her 12 month check up. However if it's something besides a check up i can normally get in right away, usually that day or the next day at the latest.

I make them at the previous appointments and if they are sick I can be seen the same day.

If I have to reschedule it will only take me a couple days maybe a week to wait.

Mine won't always do them to gether cause they want 2 co pays

We used to do them at the previous appointment but can longer make them more than a month to 6 weeks ahead of time.

Our doc office really kinda sucks about this too. I had to cancel Liam's 9 month (I think that was the one) because we were out of town. And I had to schedule an appt THREE months out (when he would then need his 12 month). Thankfully, they got a cancellation later that day for the next week and remembered I needed an appt. But it really, really irritates me to have to be that worried about missing his appts. We go away a lot, he gets sick a lot, and sometimes I just have a scheduling conflict. And it is a HUGE hassle to get him seen in a decent amount of time.

That totally sucks that they are giving you the run around. I know this sounds "wrong." But can you call and say he is acting weird and think it might be his ears. And when you get there and he is fine, ask if he can have his well-shots? I had considered doing that with the nine-month one. But obviously did not have to. It would depend what your doc does at the well-check versus the sick check. But ours does the same basic things, weight, length, temp, exam (shots and head circ for the well, not for the sick). I mean, if things are going to get too stressful, I would tell them they have to figure something out! You hire them
