I figured my title would get your attention.

So I may have mentioned a few weeks back that Nora had pooped during the night while in her crib and removed her diaper and smeared it everywhere. Well, since then it's happened quite a few more times, and has happened 4-5 times this week and twice in the last 12 hours. (at 10:30 last night and 7:30 this morning). Every time it is when she is napping or down for the night in her crib. Every time she is quiet when she wakes and poops and removes the diaper and spreads it EVERYWHERE, then she gets upset and asks for me or cries, and we go in to her room to find her this way. We were up until after 11 bathing her for the second time last night and deconning her crib. She looked like the tar baby, she was literally covered in crap. It was in her hair, mouth, under her fingernails, not a square inch was spared. She had also flung crap behind her crib onto the wall and underneath the crib.

I am so done with this behavior. My washing machine can't keep up, I'm running out of sheets and pillows for her, and to boot morning sickness has returned for me and I can't even get in there to clean without vomiting. I'm sick of wiping crap off her walls and crib, and picking it up off the floor. To make it worse she has pooped FIVE times in the last 24 hours (and it's not diarrhea, I don't know where the heck it is all coming from). We have tried telling Nora when we find her sternly that she is not to remove her diaper or put her hands in it, and that she needs to tell Mommy or Daddy when she poops so we can change her diaper. She is clearly traumatized by the time she calls us into the room and is usually crying while I bathe her and clean up her room, which makes it hard for me to be stern and reprimand her. I'm at my wit's end.

A couple of my mom friends suggested putting a zip sleeper PJ on her back wards, or having her wear a sleep sack again, only back wards. Another suggested 7th generation pull ups that she won't be able to pull off, so I'm going to try the PJ thing at nap time and have DH get some 7th generation pull ups on his way home.

Just wondering if anyone has been through this and has any other advice?

Help!!!

Ugh! That sounds awful!! I'm so sorry she's doing this. Allison hasn't done it but I'm waiting for it. She walks around putting her hand in her diaper or takes her pants and diaper off. Plus, she's started peeing on the bedroom floor after her bath! And she thinks it's funny. But, I know pee is NOTHING compared to poop.

I find that if I've got a onesie on her and pants, she leaves her diaper alone. It's when she's wearing a regular shirt that she can get into it. So, the sleep sack sounds like a good idea.

((hugs!)) and good luck!

omg- that is awful... I can't even imagine having to clean that up more than once.

yes the zip up pj sack sounds good. can she unzip it even if its in the front? Can she get a flip cover off? Flip: One-Size Diaper Cover - Diaper Covers - Cotton Babies Cloth Diaper Store maybe you can put that over her night undies/diaper and problem solved?

maybe you can commission someone to sew you some type of custom pj's that are one piece??

ugh.. what an awful thing to go through! as disgusting as it sounds, pictures would be funny later on in her life.

Andrea, I've never used a flip, but she can get applix diapers off no problem (we use sposies at night through because she leaks through anything else she is a super soaker). I do have a snap Thirsties cover that I could try over her diaper and see if that keeps it on, but she still reaches down into it so I think she'd be able to get the poo and spread it around (gross, I know.)

It's funny, my friend offered for me to send her some of Nora's 2 piece PJ's and she said she'd try and put a zipper on them that finished in the back so Nora couldn't get it. She takes off regular front zip sleepers every time we put them on but I'm hoping if it's backwards she won't be able to.

Ugh!! (hmm I haven't taken a picture of it yet but you are probably right!)

I had a poop Picaso.

two words: Duct Tape

you'd have to use a sposie...but wrap duct tape around the top completely..all the way around the back. My son required two full wraps, but it worked. takes a bit to get it off for you when it comes changing time...I kept a pair of blunt nose scissors handy and just snipped up the side.

a backwards sleeper wouldnt hurt either.

good luck!!

Oh that has to suck!!!

One things I will say I doubt the pull-ups are going to do any good. Both of my kids can easily took them off(that is one reason why we use them since the are potty learning and it makes it easier to change diapers since they can take their diapers off)....and also dig in them easily just like a normal diaper if not more so since they are stretchy...so I would save you money on those.

The backwards sleeper may be your best bet to try. I think I would try a double layer....a onsie and on top of that put a backwards sleeper.

My first response I did on the fly, cuz I was in a hurry, didnt have time to read all the posts to see where you said, she digs down in to it, not just takes it off...so the tape might not work in that case...

having someone custom make you jams is a good idea...I bet someone handy with a sewing machine could make a union suit type thingy, with a zipper in the back...snug fitting, no feet...lightweight. That would work perfectly.

LOL Mel! A poop Picaso. That is a great idea! I think we have some duct tape around here somewhere, I'll have a look now.

I saw your link Mel, those are perfect! I emailed DH the link and said if our backwards PJ doesn't work we'll try that.

Nichole I thought about a onesie thrown in there too but she gets hot at night (like mama) even with the heat turned low and I think that might cause her to wake up even more.

Who knew poop would be so fascinating??

We have two piece pajamas that has snaps sewn into them. One on each side, one in front and in back. This way she can't get in but they are still light pajamas. Payton can unsnap things but she hasn't figured these pjs out lol.

((HUGS)) I haven't ever had that issue but I have read the advice about duct tape before.

Juliana will sleep in just a onesie with pajama pants. Maybe try that so she can't get the onesie off but won't get hot with too many layers. You could do a long sleeve onesie if it's still cool there.

Several moms in Leila's PR dealt with this. One cut the feet off the footy zipper jams and turned them backwards and placed a piece of duct tape over the zipper. It worked! Another duct taped around the diaper and did versions of the above.

I wouldn't buy anything crazy personally. She could be out of this stage quickly if you can rig up a system. I know Leila dug down in her diaper a couple of times but it was over rather quickly.

If not already I would take advantage and would work some on the potty training because seems like she may not like to be poopy at all. I hope something works though, that sounds HORRIBLE!!!

I went through this with my son. We used duct tape like mel said. He didn't dig into his diaper, but was taking it off and smearing what was in there. I kept a pair of scissors next to the diapers - to cut off the diaper and put on the next one. I also did a safety pin through the top zipper of his footed pjs. But putting them on backward would work as well.

I hope you get some relief soon! It truly sucks.

Yep went through this as well with Jackson. We had to do onesies. Maybe try that and some leggings for at night time? It sucks but it def wasn't a stage that HE went through quickly.. it lasted a while, and i was def pregnant with Bella when he did it too haha! She may be getting ready to potty train too, it was a couple of months before Jackson was fully ready but this was something he did prior to PT so in a few months maybe you could try with her!?

I think you have a lot of good solutions here. I am going to agree with Jen on trying to work on potty learning now. Sounds like she is upset that she has poop and she tries to get it out, and then clean herself off, then gets frustrated. The first thing I would do is take some of the poop she spreads and put it in the potty, and flush it, while she watches. Take her with you when you go, and let her see what happens, then have her help you flush. Get her an association of where the poop SHOULD go, and then take her in before naps and bed and talk about pooping in the potty until she is comfortable enough to sit down and actually do it. Once you have the right outfit for keeping her from smearing, you can take her poop, with her and dump it out of the diaper and into the potty, and let her flush and say bye to it. I totally agree that she gets that she does not want to poop in her pants. Hope something helps, I really don't know how you are doing it pregnant. Ugh.

I am so sorry to hear and even more sorry that you are already having sickness on top of it!
I definately suggest the backwards pj's. I have also had friends who've duct taped the diaper on OR put it on backwards.

I don't know of any ideas personally but I hope you find a way to solve the problem asap!

well I am reading this thread a lot. Avery is good but my friends dd is doing this. She will be 2 in a week.
They have tried the zipper pjs things and she canunzip her own pjs so that won't work, maybe backwards though but then you have to cut the feet off and well thats expensive

she has tried this as well and she had it as tight as she could without cutting off circulation and the child just stiuck her hand in the back and pulled the poop out

Kaytee, what about her putting a onesie on and then maybe some tights over them and put some duct tape around the top of the tights??
