I know there are a few of us.....

Anyone have a toddler still not speaking?

Guess I'll have to talk to Henry's pedi at his 2 yr appt. He has yet to say a full word, let alone but any words together. Only thing he ever says is "Ta" for Thomas the train and "Ga" for go. I would love to hear him say mama

Sebastian is talking some... but he gets stuck on like one or two words and then won't say anymore. I know he can say more but he refuses to. He understands everything I say and makes me tell him what everything is. All he says right now is 'what's that?' drives me crazy that he won't just tell me what things are even when he knows.

Nevan only says about a handful or a bit more of words in total... he says car, whats that, dada, quack quack ( sounds like dada ) lol, cracker, cookie, kitty...and a few others..

ive noticed hes trying a lot more these past two weeks than b4... i think this is when hes actually going to start saying a lot more... patience is paying off. my dr said dont worry about it, he isnt even two yet, and that it will be no time... other parents of boys told me their sons didnt say a peep till 2, then they were talking up a storm. So im not worried yet... however it is far different than hailee who was talking sentences at 1 yr old. lol

This is what Nevan seems to be doing lmao

What's that? Is a great sentence. When they start using that phrase they're getting ready for a language burst. It's when they start learning the names of things and how to pronouce things. Once they know what things are called they will start to use them in every day language.

Mak only started asking "What's that" this past fall when she turned 3. Maddie's started now. It just shows me how different they are in terms of their language development at 23 months old.

Maddie's doing great. She's saying new words every day and loves to repeat words. She learned the word "menace" this past weekend and now our dog and cats are a menace! lol

If you're concerned then definitely ask your Dr Morgan. Trust your gut. I suspected Mak had a delay by 18 months and it was very clear by 2yrs old. She wouldn't repeat words or sounds, she would only say Hi and Bye Bye.

This sounds s lot like Lily. She wants to know what everything is and understand pretty much everything we say. She is trying to repeat a whole lot more than she used to. She just isn't really talking on her own yet. I guess she really doesn't have to. We are prompting her to tell us what she wants or whatever ('you want water? Say water....') and she used to get really frustrated, and still does sometimes, but I can tell she is more confident with it. She has a handful of words that she'll say pretty good, though, and sometimes on her own. Mama, Dada, Baby, Nana (banana), yes, no, nom nom nom (if she's enjoying food lol). I really do think that she'll take off with her speech soon (I hope) and am trying to not worry yet.

That is great to know about 'what's that'! I am ready for the language burst! lol

That is too cute about Maddie calling your pets a menace! I love that!

Morgan, if you think something is a problem then definitely talk to your pedi about it, but Michael doesn't really talk all that much either. I mean...he says *stuff* all day long but I only understand like 5% of it. He can say mama, dada, dog, boat, car, shoes, jacket, what's that? and where did he go?...and that's all I can think of....but it sounds like mama, dadda, og, pop, cah, jews, gakgak, ahts at?, hairdgo?....and when we meet other kids his age on the playground (usually girls) they are talking in full sentances!
And at the pedi they wanted him to know like 100 words by 2 (I was thankful to be filling out the 18month checklist when I brought him in at 22 months, haha).
But he does understand me...and he can follow directions and kind of participate in a conversation (even if you have no idea what he is saying). So I figure he just needs time to get his tounge to match up with his brain.

I think he can say "my mama" to because when he points to me he adds an extra mah sound to the mama.

But I felt like I was waiting forever for him to say mama, it seemed like everyone else's kids were saying it long before he was.
