I am thinking of homeschooling for preschool, since we can't afford to pay for Elliot to go to preschool 3-5 days a week. Looking for resources

this may be a dumb question but how do you find out if preschool and kindergarden are manditory? I seriously would like to keep them home as long as I can, but I'm not sure that I want to homeschool past the first few years of school... if that makes any sence.

I've never heard of preschool being mandatory anywhere.. but if you were interested, Amie, you could call your local elementary school to find out.

I was just wondering because Rachael, you probably wouldn't have to follow a preschool curriculum per-se... you could probably just teach the basics (numbers to 10, abcs, colors.. maybe eventually practice printing his name or at least recognize his name) and try getting him interested in books (which I know you do already with your many trips to the library!) and sitting for a book and/or song and Elliot would be just fine starting school.

well he knows 1-10 and his ABCs, but we still work on that all the time, and yes we go to the library all the time. I feel like once he is closer to 3 there should be new things to teach him and I just need ideas i guess.

I homeschooled for a few years. There are SO many great websites. When Sydney was in preschool, I used "Get ready for the Code" for phonics and Singapore math. They have a preschool curriculum that is great. I also got a book called "Mommy Teach Me" by Barbara Curtis. It's an at home Montessori guide. It's not a curriculum per se but full of ideas and"lessons". You can use it exclusively to get a great jump start in all areas. She also has a book called "Mommy Teach Me to Read"
