Let's hear 'em ladies. What did you never really think about or were never told about being a mom? I got this idea from the moms of multiples board and thought it was so interesting that I'd post it here too.

I for one never realized how funny kids are. I mean, I knew they were funny, but these kids have me in stiches every single day for a huge portion of the day!


I also never realized how fast they grow. They grow like weeds! So much shopping for clothes!

I'm sure I'll think of lots more, what do you want to add ladies??

No one told me how much I would enjoy listening to her talk to herself while she's playing. Sometimes she'll be playing by herself, and I'll just stop what I'm doing to listen to her.

Until I had a child of my own, I never understood why it takes so long to get an infant out the door since the kid can't argue with you about it. I figured you'd just keep the diaper bag packed, and you could go pretty quickly. Ha!

People warned me there would be tantrums, meltdowns, and general toddler attitude, but I thought it was usually precipitated by the parent telling the kid to do/not do something that the kid didn't/did want to do. I was not prepared for these things to happen just because I told her the wrong way/order to do something. For example, one day a meltdown might occur because I want her to put on her shoes and then go to the bathroom, but what she wants is to put on her socks, then go to the bathroom, then put on her shoes, in that order, none other.

How physically strong they are and how they will hurt you because they have no concept of cause/effect= pain.
hemorrhoids
being tore up from the floor up (kind of goes hand in hand with the above)
The unnecessary messes....They drive me batty. Today for example dd (aug. 09) decided to throw a bunch of shoes out over the baby gate on to the deck....why???? because she could. This evening she climbed up into a cabinet above the toilet grabbed her older sisters expensive face wash and drizzled it down the stairs to the boys beds.......She is supposed to be in bed. I know there were more (with 6 there is ALWAYS more ), but those were a couple of examples.
The rest I was pretty prepared for.

The sheer amount of love you can feel for all of your children, no matter the number

That I would have no problem leaving the house without brushing my teeth, washing my face, and styling my hair (other than a quick comb, and don't even ask me about makeup) on a regular basis!!!
I haven't done that for the whole almost 3 years, but I now have a 2.5 month old and am still on maternity leave so it's happening again alot!

Tell me about it! I seriously go a few days without a shower sometimes because I don't have the energy or time to take one. Thank goodness the messy bun look is in. Wait, it is in, right?
