Anyone ever been? I'm looking at all the usual sites to try to find a decent resort not too far from Disney World but they all look the flippin' same to me online. Anyone have any recommendations for anything in that area? *ahem* Hesper *ahem* I know you're a Floridian with Floridian friends. Hook a sistah up!

Yes!
I love, LOVE, LOVE going to Disney World.
*Remember I am the same person who went a few years ago without her kids.*

I highly recommending staying at a Disney Hotel. They have them in all price ranges. If you're flying they pick you up from the airport. The shuttles to and from the parks are free and run every hour until like 11ish. There are tons of food packages (I recommend the two meals and a snack - snack can be anything from a soda, to ice cream, to like fast food or fruit). Also, if you plan on going to more than just one park I recommend just going ahead and getting the park hopper. This way if Siera gets fussy you don't have to feel like you have to stay at the park all day. It's what we've always gotten - my whole family might be Disney obsessed, growing up my grandparents took us every time someone turned 7, I've been there like 8 times - and what we do is go to the parks in the morning, come back to the hotel around lunch to eat, swim, and let little ones nap, then go back to whatever park a few hours later.

I know it seems like doing it all through Disney will cost a lot, but you actually end up saving money. You don't have to pay for food, gas, or parking (super expensive btw). Or a rental car if you fly. Plus, the parks have special late hours for resort guests.

Thanks Trish! A lot of the hotels I was looking at didn't have food plans. We're thinking maybe doing a 3-day wkend down there and spending one whole day at Disney. I always thought the Disney hotels rip you off but I'm going to take another look.

I LOVE Disney, but I haven't been in a few years, and usually just drive from my moms house (2.5 hours away) for the day. My sister goes with her in-laws all the time, and they stay at the Disney resorts. She said they're all really nice! Have fun!! Siera is going to LOVE it!! I can't wait to take my kids back someday soon!

OMG! I suck. I saw your note on my phone and made a mental note to look into it. Unfortunately, mental notes are often forgotten about. Too many cobwebs, I guess.

We usually just stay on I-Drive, but then we only go down for one or two nights. We have also done the resort thing and it was AH-MAZING and totally worth the money. We were able to take a boat in instead of parking. And there was a lot to do at the hotel as well. Definitely look into that.

But, honestly, otherwise we just use travel websites to find deals...

I hope you leave some time for a meet up though!! When do you plan to make the trip?

I was hoping late September/early October. Hoping it won't be as crowded as it is now in the summer months. DH was thinking about finding a place in Kissimmee that has a shuttle to the park since we really don't want to rent a car. I think we're going to have to end up renting one anyway but who knows?

Have you thought of using a travel agent? I used one to book my last trip to Disney and she was great - charged no fees and found us a cheaper price than booking with Disney directly. We decided to stay at the Disney hotel because we didn't want to rent a car. We took the Disney's magical express to and from the airport. Let me know if you want her name

Thank you, that'd be awesome!

We're thinking of postponing the trip until April. My cousins are going with their daughters (Siera's BFFs) so DH and I might just put it off and go with them.

Her name is AmyS and she works for pixie vacations. Her phone number is 609 781 0039. When we booked our vacation we must have asked a thousand questions and she was so patient with us!

April is a great time to go! The new Fantasyland expansion in Magic Kingdom will be done and you can go on the Ariel ride and see Belle's castle.
