And They diagnosed Angelica with Mild Autism and global delays. So now that we have the diagnosis we can get her more of the help that she needs and try to learn what we can do to help her. She said that one reason she likes to cuddle and won't sleep unless she is between us is that she likes that tight feeling. She said that the Deep pressure is a comfort to her and that we might try swaddling her again or getting a weighted sleep jacket for her. She is functioning at an average of 1 year 8 months old. And the thing that really concerned them was the fact that she was losing words as she was gaining them. Granted she gains more than she loses but she shouldn't be losing at all.

Is that the diagnosis you were expecting? What help will you be able to get?
My neighbours child has very mild autism and when he is worried he always looks for his blankyjacket (to be swaddled) he is almost 3. So maybe the swaddling would be something to look into. I hope that yu find help and that she can hold onto all the new things she is learning.

Yeah with all the problems she has been having we were expecting something like this but were leaning more toward aspergers or a sensory disorder. We are going to be able to get her into a specialized preschool and get her more speech and OT therapy. And since she is only at about 1 year 8 months in development we are qualified to get diapers paid for by her medical card. That will help out a lot because we are still a long way from potty training.

I am sorry to hear this, but glad you have a diagnosis so that you can move forward with getting her the treatment she needs. (((hugs)))

And...what a blessing for the diapers!

I'm sorry to hear, but glad you have answers. I'm glad you'll be able to get assistance now, too. Good luck!

I'm glad you got a diagnosis. That's half the battle there. Do you have help me grow in your state? They were very helpful to us and were able to hook us up with financial assistance for Gavin's therapies since $20 copay per therapy adds up quick! I have a friend whose son is on the autism spectrum. He was in therapy for awhile, but is doing great now and has moved to a classroom with other kids his age without delays!

Ben, my oldest, was behind too, but with the right therapy he is doing great now. He still has bad times. I'm glad you were able to get a diagnosis though. I was in a class the other day and they said the new statistics say 1 in 8 children are on the spectrum. How scary!

Mild-Autism is typically PDD-NOS or Aspergers. I never herd of the term "Mild-Autism" till a month ago when I saw someone else post on a group that their child had Mild-Austism w/ global delays like you just did (they were also on that side of the country but I think in Georgia, so I wonder if its a regional term now?).

Glad that you were able to get a diagnosis, even though its hard to hear I'm sure it was also a releif too I know it was for us with Seamus whe he got his Asperger's/PDD-NOS diagnosis (w/ SPD and ADHD). Its also good that she will get into services that will help her. Early intervention is key and they will help her emencley(sp).

this. And good thing this is caught now and not like years from now, she might be at a 5 year old level by the time she start's Kindergarten, or at least a lot closer than if it was diagnosed after school starts!

I read this autism blog that has been talking about this a lot lately and there is a current lean to delete the term aspergers and only go with autism...that might be part of it as well.
