You are in walmart. your toddler has been carrying around a toy the entire trip. You are going to bail on the toy. You take it away covertly..you have success..yoru toddler doesnt notice right away..but when they do

If it's A I can talk her through it and tell her about all her fun toys at home and she'll be fine.

If it's E there will be a huge scene. I'll drag her out of the store kicking and screaming. It'll take me 10 minutes to get her buckled into her carseat. She'll scream bloody murder the whole way home and for at least 30 minutes total, making herself horse. Anything sets her off though and this is a daily occurance here.

She will yell for it, reach for it, throw a bit of a fit, but she is still easily distracted, so if I say something like, "LOOK! There's a puppy!!" She'll look and I'll take that opportunity to run

She will say "oh no where's *toy name*" and I will say "the toy went bye bye" and she will fuss for a few seconds and be over it.

when she notices the toy is gone we say toy went bye and she spends the next twenty minutes saying bye toy bye toy. If she is really tired we have a massive blow out

Boden will cry and have a small fit. If he's in the cart he'll start tossing stuff. As soon as I can distract him (give him my credit card!) then he's over it. He's generally really good at just looking and then putting the toy back.

I avoid the toy section as much as possible! Kendall's reaction would be very similar to Eiley's.

I try to avoid it as much as possible by taking her own toys. Usually if she wont let go of a toy she found then I will say toy is going to sleep now. She fusses for a little then I tell her its ok. She then asks for my IPod. She calms down immediately.

I actually let Ky 'play' with a toy regularly when in the store, and it never comes home with us. It was rough at first, but he's really learned that this is just the way it is. Depending on the day, it takes longer than others to convince him it stays behind, but I always make sure that it was his decision to leave it. My go to line is always "we'll play with it next time we come back". This has helped greatly with store visits, Midwife office toys, friends houses toys etc. I'm always such a proud mommy when he agrees and puts it away himself .

^^ We're the same way. She'll find something she wants to take in the cart, but she knows it won't come home with us. She will fight us though and melt down on not being ready to go, ie: we're in the toy department and she's browsing. She's pretty thorough, and doesn't like to be rushed, .
