Are there any stories or books that you read to your LO specifically because you think that they have a good moral or message that you want your LO to learn?
I've been on a hunt for books like this recently. I think that in the long-term it will be a more helpful way for Charlie to learn self-control and all of the other things that I want him to learn, rather than me just lecturing him. Unfortunately, English-language kids books are hard to come by here in China, and the one store that's halfway across the city has fairly slim pickings. But recently, I did pick up a book called "Value Tales" that has all of these stories about famous people (Harriet Tubman, Helen Keller, etc.), and for each one there's a "value" that's supposed to go with them (like "the value of determination," or "the value of believing in yourself.") The stories are kind of long, and I think they're still a bit over Charlie's head, but he likes reading them and asks to have them read to him, even if he doesn't really get them.
His other favorite lately is Winnie the Pooh, and I do think that most of those stories have a pretty good moral as well, about the value of friendship etc.
What I really wish I could find a copy of is "The Boy Who Cried Wolf." Because our biggest struggle with Charlie is the constant whining, and I want to find a way to show him why that's not the right way to ask for things all of the time. But I can't find a copy of the story around here.
What about the rest of you? Any good book recommendations for something like this?
