OKay so I have done calculation to get my due date base off the fact that my last period started March 28th and my cycles tend to last 30 days. According to the ticker things this puts me in week 4. My understanding was that the weeks start by when your period starts which if I am counting right then I am actually about to start week 6. . . But now I am so confused. Anyone able to set me straight?

They calculate it based on your LMP. If your LMP was March 28th you would be 4 weeks and 6 days pregnant. (So we'll say 5 weeks) pregnology.com is a good site to use. Also, if you know exactly when you ovulated you can actually calculate the gestational age. You take the 1st day of your temp rise, add 9 months and subtract 7 days.

Your due date is based on when you ovulated, not when your period started. On a "typical" 28 day cycle, ovulation is 2 weeks after your period starts... You're not having a 28 day cycle so the calculators assume you ovulate a little later.

So, the calculators are most likely assuming you have a "typical" luteal phase of 14 days.. If you have a 30 day cycle then your period was due on April 27th, so based on "typical" times you ovulated on April 13th giving you an EDD of January 4th making you 4 weeks, 5 days pregnant (unless its midnight, and thus Sunday now, where you are ).

At least thats how JM's calculator is most likely coming up with that date

My EDD is calculated as December 31 according to pregnology.com. My LMP was on March 27 and my average cycle length is 27 days, so that puts me at 5 weeks and 3 days pregnant today. I guess it's different depending on cycle length? I guess I will get a definite come May 12 when I have my first prenatal visit. It really can be very confusing.
