I was all excited that I was getting an early u/s that I didn't even notice they failed to schedule it yesterday until later that night when I finally read the papers they gave me. They just scheduled me for my first appointment with the OB, the big one with the physical, blood draws, etc....

So I called in this morning (so anxious all night about it rofl) and the lady was a bit rude about it. There is a really nice receptionist there and then this one.... she said if we didn't give you a handout with u/s instructions it is NOT an u/s appointment and that it would be "strange" for them to schedule it before the first visit... which the nurse mentioned they may do since I may or may not be 2 months along (the fib).

Anyway, I finally got to talk to the nurse and she said that she did plan on scheduling after the first visit, but had expected them to schedule my first visit much sooner. So she scheduled me for the u/s that same day almost an hour after the first. The first appointment is supposed to take an hour, and then I will have to kill time for another 45 minutes or so before the u/s.

That should be interesting with DH and DS along lol. And since we are not telling anyone it is going to be tricky to get the time off for DH this pregnancy for all the appointments... at least until they know why lol. They are usually fine with things like taking off for little things, but they are in the middle of a huge project and nobody is supposed to be leaving for anything. The project should be tapering off by then at least....

Anyway, now I am happy again! I was starting to fear they wouldn't get me in until August for the u/s! And by then it wouldn't be such an "early" u/s anymore rofl.

So glad it all got worked out. Luckily my dr. has an u/s tech on staff on Tues. and Thurs. right in the office, so I will see that one shortly after I make my first appt.

When is your first appt. scheduled?

July 17th, which I felt was quick enough, but they think I may be 4 weeks further along since I had to hint to that so they would give me the early u/s lol. I just said I wasn't sure due to weird periods which is only partially a fib. But I know I am just 4 weeks and a couple days. So I didn't want the u/s any sooner than that anyway since by that day I will actually just be 6 weeks and 5 days as it is.

Wow that is pretty soon, even with my unsure dates I think both my u/s were done at 9 weeks or so. Yay you get to see baby!

I think I had one around the same time last pregnancy as well.... I am a little worried it would be too soon since I have read that "an u/s can be done as early as 7 weeks to measure and date the pregnancy" blah blah blah... and I wont be quite 7 weeks yet. But they are assuming I might be much further than that lol. I just worry it might be too early at 6 weeks and 5 days to see a heartbeat at least, which is the main reason I wanted the early u/s. Also I want to make sure it isn't ectopic or anything though or to see if it was multiples so I am happy it is early for those reasons.

I have mine the 17th as well...I'll be a little over 7 weeks. I wanted to have it closer to 8 weeks, but after the nurse made me VERBALLY tell her I understood that "seeing a heartbeat didn't guarantee I wouldn't miscarry 2 weeks later" I just took it and got off the phone as quick as possible.

I want an early ultrasound (and was told it wouldn't be a problem at my last appointment) because I had a missed miscarriage - I didn't miscarry until a month after the baby had passed away, I thought everything was fine. So I just want an early one to know everything is developing just fine. She didn't have to be a ***** about it!

So does anyone know how early they typically can see the heartbeat via u/s? I really wish I could remember when my last early one was...

7-8 weeks. After 8 weeks is really the best.

Well I did a quick search and ironically was taken back to JM lol, but I found this paragraph in their information....

When is the earliest you can see a heartbeat on ultrasound?
At about six weeks into pregnancy (four weeks from conception), you should be able to see your baby's heartbeat on ultrasound. The typical heart rate at this age is about 100 beats per minute. As your pregnancy progresses, your baby's average heartbeat will be between 120 and 160 beats per minute.

That gives me some hope at least to maybe get to see it then. I know that if not I will just hear it later at one of my appointments, but that was one of the reasons to try to get the early u/s lol. At least I can be reassured a little from it whether the HB is seen or not yet.

Ok.... just looked up my last u/s through my billing records... I had it at 6 weeks and 4 days (so actually one day earlier than I will have it this time or possibly the same day since I am unsure by a day on conception) and I THINK we saw a HB that time.

My record says they ordered me a transvaginal u/s, but I am quite certain they gave me an abdominal one... so I dunno. I guess worst case scenario maybe I can ask them to do transvaginal for a better chance to see it.

Gestationally.... I was maybe a day or three even earlier in Ovulation though, so that would put me further along gestationally which I am sure is where it counts... so I guess we'll see. I am going to be worrying about it until then though, I just know it lol.

I saw dd's hb at 5w6d last time so I hope you get to see yours! I went in for my appt today. They said my test was pos. I said I know. They said when was your LMP I said I didn't know...sometime in may? I got a pos pregnancy test 2 weeks ago if that helps!

Then the nurse said, well I can't help you anymore. You'll have to see your family doctor who will draw blood todetermine your edd??? :O so now I have an apt with my family doc on thurs to "draw blood" but I know that doesn't date a pregnancy so I'm sure I'll get a u/s

the nurse was super nice though so thats a plus

yeah that would be very hard to date a pregnancy on levels alone... there is too big of a range that is considered normal.
