I haven't been great lately at taking my vitamins because they have really been aggravating my nausea. Anyways I bought some gummy vitamins for DD today and thought I would take them although after looking at the label they don't have ANY folic acid in them. AGH Do you guys have any suggestions on vitamins? I would prefer gummy vitamins if possibile. OR if anyone knows of how much folic acid my vitamins should contain I can look around for some tomorrow. TY!

dds target brand gummis have the folic acid... just an fyi the folic acid is most critcal in the 1st trimester to help prevent spina bifida. By the second trimester the spinal cord is already on the inside or it isn't...

If you eat a bowl of whole grain cereal it contains the daily rec. dose of folic acid. I too have gone the gummy vitamin route as well. I am managing to stomach folic acid supplements on the side.

Well I know a lot of women turn to flinstones vitamins when they don't want to take the prenatals. You could also get a script for some folic acid pills to take alongside your gummy ones.

Or you could check into Juice Plus+. Google it and it will give you plenty of information. I'm not taking prenatals only my Juice Plus+. That way my body is for sure absorbing what I swallow when I take the pills. Prenatals or any synthetic vitamin has been known to just sit in your stomach and you never receive the full potential of the vitamin.

I take Flintstones twice a day one with extra Vit C & the other with extra iron & then 2 Folic Acid tablets (they are tiny & NEVER bother my stomach) There have been some days I can't even do that, but I also will drink Ensure (not as a meal, as a supplement) and I try to eat Total cereal...and shredded wheat. Total has 100% of the daily recommended Folic Acid (although I think when pg you need more) and you can also do OJ. I just read a study showing that women who drank OJ (which is lower in folic acid than a tablet of course) vs those that took a supplement showed similar levels of folic acid, which shows that absorption through OJ is higher than through supplement. So - there are lots of ways to get what you need....and there is no "right" answer, especially when you are having a tough time eating/puking....it's just important to try to give your body as much good stuff as you can.

I have been soooo bad too....very sporatic with my vitamin intake since about week 6 or 7 I need to step it back up again! Will start tonight and hopefully get back into the routine!

Maybe try and take the folic acid at whatever time of day you do feel ok enough? I know I have times of the day I feel better than other times ya know?

With my son my midwife actually told me to stop taking the prenatals and go ahead and take Flintstones and Folic Acid (I was super sick).

This pregnancy I take Prefera OB - it has extra B6 and a more digestible iron in it. I take it at night and have had no problems with it. It is smaller than most prenatals as well... and I stopped taking it for a few days to see if it would help with my nausea/all day sickness and I didn't notice a difference.
