I just tried to make some. I used a fresh box of Bisquick and followed the directions perfectly.

Some of them look great! Nice and fluffy but some of them didn't rise at ALL they are flat. They taste really good but they look like frisbees. LOL

What do you think I did wrong?

Not a clue! But way to go! My biscuits come out of a tube with the doughboy on the side!

LOL! This is my second try. When Dh and I first got married almost 12 years ago I made some. They were flat and he made of me so I've never tried again until today.

I usually buy the Grands in a can instead.

I also use the canned stuff, however maybe the mix had settled in the box? Did you mix it up really well along with any ingredients it called for? Sounds like maybe some had the agent that causes the rising and others didn't?

It's a possibility that you worked them with your hands a little too much. I occasionally make mine that way but most of them time it comes from a can. Try handling the dough as little as possible and try making them in a 8" round cake pan it kinda holds them together.

I was going to suggest over mixing too. Keep trying though!

I honestly can say I haven't used a mix to make biscuits, but have done the ones in the can but a majority of the time I just do home made and I seem to not be able to screw those up.
Now today on the other hand I started a fire in my oven

Sounds like you worked them too much. I know when I make them that the first batch I roll out and make biscuits out of when I use bisquick turns out decent, then I guess after I roll it up and out again they get flat. Definitely easier to use the canned stuff.

I always make mine from scratch and don't have any problems... the recipe is so easy. They turn out great every time!

2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon white sugar
1/3 cup shortening
1 cup milk

Directions

Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Gradually stir in milk until dough pulls away from the side of the bowl.
Turn out onto a floured surface, and knead 15 to 20 times. Pat or roll dough out to 1 inch thick. Cut biscuits with a large cutter or juice glass dipped in flour. Repeat until all dough is used. Brush off the excess flour, and place biscuits onto an ungreased baking sheet.
Bake for 13 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges begin to brown.

I agree, you probably over mixed them. I don't know the recipe by heart so maybe it is the same as what Lauren posted but I use the recipe on the back of the baking powder can. They come out great every time.

I make mine from scratch (don't even use a recipe).

Next time, don't roll them out as flat.

I think I over worked them. I rolled them out and cut them and then took the leftover dough and rolled it out again and again. LOL

I think I flattened them working them too much. Dh didn't laugh though. He knows better now!

As long as they tasted good, I would not worry about. I did the same thing once and dh just stacked two on top of one another. I am so craving biscuits and gravy!!!
