Do you know when and who will do your baby's circumcision if your getting it done?

My ds's was done at the hospital by the pediatrician. That was 9 years ago. Now I'm using a different pedi, OB and hospital. I noticed when I had dd in the pedi's office the other day that he was doing one right there in the office.

So I called my insurance company. They said it is covered and they will cover it under my deductible if I have it done at the hospital. If I opt to do it at the pedi's office it's subject to another $500 deductible first. So they told me to try and get it done at the hospital.

I'm going to ask my OB at my next appt and see how this is handled.

How is it done in your area?

With Max, his Ped came to the hospital and did it the day we were released. They did it in the morning and then kept us a bit longer to make sure he was fine before letting us go around 5 pm.

It really depends more on the ped since they're the ones that do it. Give them a call and see if they visit the hospital as well. It's possible they might do them there as well.

With my DS, they did just after he was born. Since I had a c-section, I did not even see him until after it was done.

At my hospital the OB does it - I think the day they are born. It is covered under my insurance and my OB asked me at my first visit if I wanted it done if my baby was a boy. I think because it is not included in the "doctor's fee" that you pay up front. Maybe your OB can do it?

At the hospital where I deliver, the OB who delivers the baby does the circumcision the day you are released from the hospital.

I havent even asked my doctor about it yet. I have always thought the OB did it in the hospital. I have been dreading this decision. I was gonna post a topic asking about it for BTDT mamas..how it healed,if it affected breast feeding, what kind of pain management they use, etc.

The OBs do it here and we had it done in the hospital with Grant. His was screwed up (they didn't take enough off on one side) so he had to have a revision when he was 2. After that, we decided any boys we had, we were having a pediatric urologist do them (we have a good friend who is one). They did it in the hospital too and they always us a penile block.

With DS we had the neonatologist do it right before he came home. The nurses gave him tylenol once and he was fine in just a few days. The Dr did it "free hand" (not with the penile block) and every doctor who has seen it says it's the best job they've seen. If I had another little boy, I'd try to get that doc to do it. He was great.

Anyway, it was done in the hospital. My OB would have done it if DS wasn't in the NICU before we were released.

My son's was done in the hospital the day before we went home. It was done in about 10 minutes and he was sleeping when he was brought back. Never seemed to pain him and didn't affect breastfeeding.
I had my son in a different state with diff docs so I'll bring it up with the new pediatrician.. thanks for reminding me. I'll definitely want it done in the hospital.
Just make sure your insurance covers whoever does it.. the last hospital just had the in house pedi do it and it wasn't covered so we had to pay $960.

I'm going to have to ask my new Dr. what she does. I know my old OB did them because he was late for one of my appts. doing one. I'll have to ask our pedi in Jan. when I take DD in for her check up too. Since we're having a surprise baby it'll be good to know!

I don't want done in office either. I'm definitely going to have to ask about this.

I knew he was doing one b/c they had a sign on the door that said Circumcision. Where I live if you have Medicaid you only get seen by the pediatrician if your baby is severely ill or for a circumcision so that may be what he was doing was a Medicaid circumcision. I'm not sure. I'll definitely be asking especially since my insurance prefers it to be done in the hospital.

My son's was done in the hospital before we were released and I'm assuming it'll be that way this time around also. Although, his ped did it not the OB.
