Sam's thread got me thinking about how many of you plan to tour hospitals? I want to tour 2 of them just to be sure i'm making the right choice. Although with the flu being so overwhelming i wonder if hospitals are even allowing tours right now.

I will be using the same hospital I delivered all my other babies at. I really like the setup and the staff.

I did the tour last time. I found it really useful. They told you where to park (where you could leave your car next to the door without getting in trouble), what to do if you can't walk up, where the delivery, surgery, nursery and snack rooms were. It made it a little easier to know what to expect.

I also will be using the same hospital DD was born at. I did have a tour prior to her birth as part of my childbirth class and loved it. I'd been to the floor once before for my rhogam shot but didn't really get a tour that day. They did show me around a bit though since they only had 2 new mommies on the floor that day.

That's a good question about tours and flu season though. I'd call to find out. It almost makes sense that if they aren't allowing visitors/visitors under 18, then they shouldn't/wouldn't allow tours of random people through either.

We did the tour the first time and it was pretty helpful, we are using a different hospital this time so we will probably tour L&D again.

i toured both of the available hospitals that my insurance covered about two months ago. (early, i know) it really helped when it came to deciding. one was light with big rooms, better security measures, a nursery (just in case), a dvd player in the rooms (i thought that was a plus), and a nicer place for DH to sleep. the other one (which happened to be closer to my house) was really dark and small with no nursery and a recliner for my husband to sleep in (which didn't look comfy). we made up our minds almost as soon as we walked into that one. the only good thing about the one we didn't choose is that you got to labor, deliver, and stay in the same room the whole time, but with the other, you labor and deliver on one floor, and stay the rest of the time on another.

I toured mine over 9 years ago when I was pregnant with my first. This will be my first to actually use the hospital though. I saw some updated photos of the L and D suites on their websites though. They are completely remodeled with whirlpool tubs. I was surprised. They look really nice and comfy!

I was just there 19 months ago so I am good.

Our hopital is so small that a tour really wasn't necessary.

Never toured, but I've delivered here twice before.

By switching to a midwife this time, that means I'll be delivering at a different hospital that is much further away. My SIL delivered her girls there, but I only visited briefly so we will be touring. I know that my hospital is still doing tours for adults, but they are not doing the sibling class and tour for kids.

Once I figure out when I'll be moving to my hometown, I'll figure out which hospital I'm going to tour.

We're having a homebirth, so I don't need a tour But we gave birth at a birth center with our first and we toured it twice. First was when we registered and second time was when we were with our birth class.

We took a tour with our first and we're delivering at the same hospital so I don't think we will be doing it again. But, we did find it very useful.

I think I will ask about a tour when I get to Texas. I have been to the hospital before but have never seen the maternity wing. Hadn't really thought about it with the other kids. I just figured I would see what I needed to see when the time came. It makes more sense to see it all before hand.

We have about 5 hospitals within 15 minutes of us and so we will be touring a few of them since we will be also choosing a new OB so I don't want to choose an OB and not like the hospital they deliver at.

We're set on our hospital but we'll tour anyway. I think its part of the registration process at ours
