I plan to breastfeed but of course we have bottles. How did you sterilize your baby's bottles (boiling water, dishwasher, etc)?

When I first took them out of the package, I did boil them. Then for everyday cleaning, I either used the dishwasher or a sink full of hot, soapy water.

I used the dish washer... but it might be hard with skinny bottles.. we used bid advent, and i think they were wide enough to get really clean... if you do dishwasher then i would get a little plastic thingy to hold the nipples right so they dont flip over in the wash.

I washed by hand but threw them in the dishwasher every few days. DS only had one bottle/day...

I sterilized the nipples before the first use. I will use playtex drop in's, so I will just wash the parts in the dishwasher. Dh will likely fill the sink or use the dishwasher depending his mood. He's been doing more of the dishes around here lately.

Once I started back to work and had to pump we just used the dishwasher - and one of those nipple-holder basket thingies is essential! Of course, sterilizing bottles isn't really necessary (its not like you sterilize your nipple to breastfeed - or even that your breastmilk is sterile (its not) ). Clean is all that is needed. Here is an article on it: Should I Sterilize My Baby's Bottles...

I agree with Sally! I didn't actually sterilize Jake's bottles... I just washed them with hot soapy water in the sink... he turned out just fine! lol

Clean is all you need.....as long as any old milk residue is gone, you should be okay.
Think about it, the human nipple isn't sterile.

I boiled them before first use, then washed them with soapy water after use... once a week-ish, I'd boil them again just to make sure that I got all nooks and crannies.

The only time I sterilized them after every use was when she was sick, so I wasn't just feeding her germies.

We just run them through the dishwasher && use the basket for nipples, pacifiers, lids etc..

I boiled them when I first bought them and then hand washed them. I think around 9-10 months I started putting them in the dishwasher.
