I know that if you're pregnant you are suppose to let them know for any dental work and appointments in general.
I just got my letter in the mail for my 6 month check up, is there anything that shouldn't be done at a dentist besides x-rays? Certain cleaners etc.... Just wondering before I confirm my appointment in Feburary.
i would call and confirm and just let them know you are pregnant incase they do have to take any precautions I don't think they will need to cause I know you can still get your teeth cleaned and stuff but just to be on the safe side
Mine wanted a letter from my OB before they would do anything more than a cleaning on me. Might be safe and just get one ahead of time so you dont waste time going in for the appointment. I had to go in twice for something that should have taken one trip! =/
You can have everything done at a 6 month that you usually do. Digital xrays are actually fine...we had a rep come in and talk with us about the new machines. They put out less radiation than flying an an airplane. We didn't have to put aprons on patients with a digital but we did anyways so parents wouldn't freak out. But def dont get them if youre not comfortable. Even knowing all I know about dental xrays I was still nervous when I got mine done a couple months back because we have always been told "Absolutely no xrays while pregnant!"
Just so you know I go for my checkup and one filling and they told me that an x-ray was okay. They do however require I have and okay from my midwife or OB. Also I'm not allowed to have the gas just the shot meds. But I would call both your dr and your dentist and see what they say.
Most OBs have a form letter for dentists stating what is considered safe/what is not. Mine said most everything was safe, but that it's a personal decision so if I didn't want to get x-rays or fillings, etc then just skip them.
You just can't get the gas..but local anesthetic (the shots) are fine.....and xrays are supposed to be safe after the first trimester. Just be aware that your gums are more tender now and will most likely bleed when they start to clean them..but nothing to worry about! I have a cleaning scheduled for like 2 weeks before I'm due! lol
If you have any major work that needs to be done, you can probably just wait til baby is born to have it done!
