I don't know if you ladies remember me griping about this but my OB's office wanted my $500 deductible plus my 20% coinsurance of $570 upfront. We have $3600 in a health savings account but you can't pay deposits with that so dh and I were going to have to come up with the $1070 in cash and then our HSA would reimburse us once the baby was actually delivered. I was aggravated about the whole deal.
Well the only good thing to come out of my kidney stone is that the hospital gets....wait for it
$1300 for 3 hours of L and D monitoring Now my deductible is met and I can pay the hospital with my HSA account so all I need now is $570 in cash to pay my 20%!!
That does stink. My doctor only wants the 20% coinsurance (which I still owe and surprised they aren't sending me nasty letters) and then the hospital collects the deductible. I remember when having DD I met all my out of pocket maximums since we had so many u/s's and I had crappy insurance at the time. She became my $4000 baby. I hope we don't do that again.
