I'm wide awake right now because I let the nursery take Ashlynn for a few so I could sleep. You can tell i'm a new mommy. I hate putting her down! So I have time to write the whole story =) I'll even add the past few days in there.
Now one-handed

Little miss Ashlynn got hungry.
So let's see.. Labor started around 6:30pm on Wednesday night.I was having what I thought was BH contractions. I wasn't in any pain. Maybe kinda crampy, but nothing odd... The contractions were 9-10mins apart for a good 2 hours, then briefly jumped to 6 mins apart. By then I was still skeptical, so I took a late night walk on my street for maybe 10 minutes. When I got back, the contractions increased to every 3mins. They still didn't hurt. I actually had to touch my stomach to feel them! I was feeling constant cramps, so I couldn't use cramps as an indicator.
My mom suggested that I pack my hospital bag just in case (I didn't have it done. It was 10 days before my due date) so I rushed off to do that.
We tried to time my contractions but they were not even close to timeable. It seemed I'd have two or three in a row, then a break...then two in a row...and so on.
Around 11:30pm we decided it was best I go to the hospital and my stepdad's brother's wife (My aunt, in a way) offered to drive my mom and I there.
We got to the hospital around midnight, checked in and got me all hooked up. Sure enough, I was in labor. However, my cervix was WAY up there (The nurse could barely reach...and it hurt for her to do so) and I was only about 1cm dilated.
My aunt and mom decided they'd both stick around and help me out with the nervousness.
After a bit, the contractions were starting to hurt more and more. And get longer.
The monitor confirmed that I was having a few in a row with no complete 'come down' between them.
I avoided getting pain meds (I needed an IV to get them and I'm terrified of IVs) until I had a 3 minute contraction that had me in tears...and once I got the IV in (by now it was like 4 or 5am) I was able to sleep for about 45 minutes.
They brought me to the delivery room (I think it was about 9 am? I can't remember,to be honest) and checked me again. I was 3cm dilated. My doctor broke my water and explained that there was meconium in the fluid. He wasn't worried. After they broke my water, the previous meds didn't work at ALL for the contraction pain. I was given some ativan through my IV for anxiety and then given the epidural.
Shortly after, I was dilated 8cm, then 9. Then it stalled. They had to give me pitocin to get me dilated that last bit.
When it came time to push, well..that was interesting.
Im not sure if it was the nurse or me or what, but the baby wasn't moving.
I had no real urge to push yet, the nurse kept pushing IN and yelling at me to push harder and threatening to call my doctor and make him give me a c-section.
When I got the urge to push, I pushed every time as hard as I could (The nurse only came in a few times, tried to make me push better, then left in a huff)
Around 6pm, I was bawling my eyes out and exhausted. I BEGGED for a c-section and the nurse called in the doctor. He gave me three options. C-section, try pushing again, or try using a vacuum.
I had to stop and push multiple times while he spoke.
I agreed to using the vacuum and pushing. They got me more ativan, gave me a boost of the epidural and a heap of doctors/nurses rushed in.
The delivery itself is pretty hazy. I pushed when he told me to and within 10 minutes, Ashlynn was born.
She weighed 8lbs 14oz.
She was rushed to the other side of the room, cleaned, and suctioned out. After all, she had meconium in her airways.
I sobbed with a mixture of both relief from the pain and pure joy at having delivered my baby girl.
I guess once she was born, I started to bleed really badly. I kept falling asleep, waking up and asking to hold my baby, then falling back to sleep. At some point, I woke up and saw I was being stitched. Another time, I held my daughter. Another time, I was being given a shot (I believe to stop the bleeding) in my leg. They got the bleeding stopped, and I was told I was as white as a sheet and really critical for a little while. I was drugged up on the epidural, anxiety medication, and who knows what else, so I barely remember much from the rest of the night until almost midnight.
I do remember the nurses asking me if I was going to nurse, and me saying yes. They let me nurse her and it was an amazing feeling. She was so beautiful.
I was asked to sign a paper giving permission to receive a blood transfusion if needed, and I signed it while still falling asleep every few minutes.
The first night was painful but decent. I had my IV and swelled up like a balloon.
The first day was also pretty painful. I was still on bedrest. I couldnt get up to use the bathroom or anything. I had a blood transfusion because my crit (not sure what it is) level was very very low.
On day two, yesterday, they had me get up and walk. and shower. They let me finally change my daughter's diaper. They noticed she had some jaundice, too.
Today i've been up and about almost normally. Ashlynn's jaundice is worse so we're staying another night. Im hoping we go home tomorrow.
I've been denying most visitors besides close family..and was really ticked off that the day after delivering Ashlynn, my grandmother and aunt (both of whom i don't get along with much) invited themselves to visit. They did not ask me if I was up to it..they just showed up.. ugh..
I started writing this at 6am. Its now 11pm. Heehee..ive had a busy day
