So........DH gets his check yesterday and it is $800 short. Um, what??? The state took it out for taxes, saying we were back owed on our 08 taxes. Well, we had a payment arrangement on those taxes for $100 a month which we have been paying faithfully and never been late.....and our total owed was like $900...and we had already payed off $600...so WTH? So I just spent an HOUR on the phone with the tax board and first they are trying to say they don't have a record of a payment arrangement, then they "found" it, then they said when you do a payment arrangement you also agree to 35% penalty fees, which i KNOW we were never made aware of, who in the WORLD would agree to that??????It is crazy!!!!!!! So our $900 bill is over $1200. And I guess after 6 months if it isn't paid in full they garnish your check (again we got no notice of this!!!!) But it still doesn't add up...even if the total owed is $1200...we have paid $600...so why are they taking out over $800 from his check??????????? The lady says "Oh guess it was a mistake". But it is already done so all we can do now is wait for the payment to go to our account and then them to issue a refund for the other few hundred.....which by the way takes up to 90 days. Meanwhile we are almost a thousand short, I am off work right now, we have a baby coming this month, hospital copays, etc, and will have like, no money.

And the lady was really mean. She had a nasty tone in her voice and kept telling me I was too stressed out and she didn't like my attitude. Then at one point she told me "I will hang up on you right now and you will never figure this out or get your money". She had me in tears and shaking.

OMG!!! what a b! I'm so so sorry this is going on. I know the not working/low on money thing is VERY stressful, and with that lady talking to you like that?! what the heck is her problem anyway I'd call back and speak to a supervisor because this is unacceptable. they can't rush that refund so that you're not waiting 90 freakin' days?

Oh, I would have LOST it and totally went off on her. How terrible, hun. I'm sorry you're having to deal with all of this stress, especially right now.

But I swear, I woulda' totally went off on her and showed her just what an attitude I could have gotten!!

That is horrible and there is no reason for them to treat a person that way. I'm sorry!

I did file a complaint but I doubt it will do anything....you know how that goes.

I like how when the state owes YOU money, they can take as long as they want to give it to you but if you owe THEM money, it darn well better be paid RIGHT NOW.

I'm laughing right now because you just reminded me of something, and not in a 'funny' way...I receive food stamps (the only govt assistance I HAVE to take besides paying for Arrie's daycare) and I got a letter in the mail saturday saying they've been giving me too much on my card for the past YEAR so I in turn owe them $1034 which they want immediately and until it's paid in full they'll be deducting 10% from each amount I get per month. are they kidding me?! I'm calling them tomorrow morning because how is it MY fault they messed up? I don't think so. $1034...pah. they can kiss my big wide behind on that note.

Always quick to take it from you, but not to refund it. I hate dealing with taxes and gov/state.....never ends well. Last year we were to get a refund of $5000, but never did b/c my new husband and ex wife didn't pay taxes in 07. So they took our refund .........HELLO my son and I didn't owe those taxes. Never got it...I gave up.
