I'm trying to get some clothes stored up but I can't decide what size to get. DD was 8 lbs 8 oz but she still fit in newborn sized clothes for at least a month. She was early though so this baby could be 10 pounds easy. Would he still fit in newborn or not?

I just remember with dd the 0-3 months I bought swallowed her even though she was over 8 pounds.

I'm getting NB/0-3m size if I get anything new. So far I have DD's NB size stuff clean and ready for the closet and the 0-3/3m stuff is waiting. She was 7.7 when she was born and was only a week early. So we'll see! NB clothes were pretty big on her for a little bit, too.

I had no idea NB sized clothes would run that big! I was under the impression that the newborn clothes wouldn't last long at all...I am so clueless when it comes to what to buy and how much. Everyone keeps telling me all they really need for the first few months are sleepers and onesies. Is this right? I have been getting mainly sleepers and onesies as gifts/hand me downs so I think I may be set and not have to buy much except maybe some pants to go with some of the onesies, but I don't know how many sets I will really need?

My SIL used NB on her son for at least a month and he was a 10lb baby.

I've mainly bought 0-3 and up lately, but I need to buy a few up to 7lbs and NB outfits soon.

I have to agree. Unless you are taking your little one to daycare or out of the house everyday they pretty much only wear sleepers and onesies.

I purchased a few pants for DS and I think he only wore one or two a couple times, a waste of money imho.

Most people tend to just dress babies for the first few months in sleepers and onesies. I'm weird though and I prefer outfits unless they are sleeping at night. But that's just my personal preference.

I'm not buying much in the range of newborn unless it is sleepers and onesides..Plus I am sure I will get alot of newborn stuff at my baby shower. I am buying bigger outifts 0-3, 3-6, and even some 6-9 if clearances are good.. but my son was in newborn for seriously a few weeks, and he grew sooo fast that newborn was a joke.. he was born at 7lbs 14oz, but had no problems putting weight on.

my daughter was 6lbs 8oz and was in newborn clothes for at least a month...she had reflux though and I had to throw a lot of the stained clothes out. So I bought another pack of newborn onsies, some outfits and plan on getting more sleepers!!

I don't think I have a single newborn item, DD was 9lbs 13oz and 21.5" so she never fit into newborn and was out of 0-3 pretty quick. I'm sort of holding off till my u/s on the 15th to see if this baby is still measuring big... I might buy a few newborn outfits from kohls (great return policy, they take it back even if its been over a year as long as it has tags and receipt) then once she's born if I need them I'll have my MIL get them washed while I'm in the hospital and if not I'll return them.

I plan on buying newbies and 0-3 months. Most of the clothes will be onsies and sleepers though.

I'm like Shelley and like to put them in something besides sleepers and onesies, but I know that's not the norm. I think the NB size fit Lily for longer than 4 weeks. My sister gave me her 0-3 month spring clothes from her oldest daughter. I've picked up one spring NB outfit as her going home outfit, but that's all I've bought. I may have to pick up a few more NB things since all of Lily's NB clothes were winter.

My kids have all worn preemie the first few weeks. My daughter was very tiny and still fit into some newborn on her first birthday.

My DD was 6lbs 2 oz and wore preemie stuff for the first few weeks. All the nurses would ask if she was a preemie, but she was full term, she was just tiny! So I am having the same issue on what size to buy. I don't want to waste a bunch of money on preemie stuff if the baby won't fit in it. But I have no clue if this baby will be tiny like Rylee or not! I bought one preemie coming home outfit, some NB and some 0-3 months.

DD was under 7 lbs (at 41 weeks) and 0-3 month stuff was huge on her, so I have bought a decent amount of newborn sized stuff for this baby...probably 7 or 8 outfits so far. I have about 15 outfits in 0-3 month right now, and I am buying the most in 3-6 summer clothes. The nice part about living in FL is that we have a 3 week winter, so we get plenty of time to use the spring and summer season clothes.

I actually skipped clothing. Lol. I just got a whole bunch of gowns and then 0-3 month clothes.

I do have some plain white onesies that are in newborn though.

I have quite a few onesies and sleepers that are 0-3. I do have a few newborn ones to and was thinking they looked really little, until my friend had her son a couple of weeks ago. I didn't realize how teeny newborns can be! So I might buy a few more NB stuff and then call it good.

Some brands also run large you will find. Gymboree layette sleeper type things run huge. My daughter couldn't wear the 0-3 month in those until she was probably 4 months.
