Hey guys,
I posted in the introduction boards and was told to check these out. I just found out this morning that I am pregnant. I used a home pregnancy test... so I would guessss my baby would be due in October sometime. As soon as I tell the dad, I will go to the doctors and find out what all is going on for sure, and how far along I am. I would guess I'm around 5-6 weeks though. The dad is my boyfriend, but he's been at work all day, and I will NOT tell him something like this over a text. So he will get told later. I had to tell SOMEONE so I called a couple close friends and 2 cousins. I also told my dog (ha ha), but otherwise no one! I'm hoping posting here will get me through this pregnancy with an idea of what's going on, and seeing if you guys experience things that I do and that kind of stuff. Just over the past couple nights when I thought I might be, I've noticed when I lay down for bed I get sort of nauseated. But I don't know if that's because I was suspicious and it was all in my head or what... because I've heard that doesn't usually kick in until later on. My appetite isn't completely different. Just like I'll feel fine and all at once I'm starving to death and need to eat like NOW!!! But being late by 12 days was what led me to take the test this morning.
Well, welcome to the board! I just joined here today too...although I didn't have the patience to wait until 12 days late! LOL - I am due Oct 29th. It is amazing what your body does to you during pregnancy
Well due to a minor car accident and money probs and an aunt being diagnosed with cancer recently, I thought it was possible it was just stress making the period late. But I'd get the sensation that it was coming, and run into the bathroom, and nothing. I hadn't figured out how late I was until Friday night. It was the first time I really sat down to think about it! Cause my last period started on New Year's Day, so I figured I should've started the next sometime around the 3rd (mine usually run for 6 days and have a normal 28 day cycle. So predictable until now for me!). So when my bf went to work I walked to the store and got the test, now 12 days late, and sure enough, I was pregnant!
With my first (almost 5 years ago now!) I waited 9 days but it was purely on accident. I didn't even think I was pregnant.. never crossed my mind. We were not trying to try but wasn't an accident, lol.. just time got away from me and next thing I knew I was like, wait a second..
It's nice to meet you and thanks for stopping in.
(P.S. If you put in your EDLP (estimated date of last period) you'd get a good estimate as to what your EDD (estimated due date) is. I put in New Years Day for you and got Oct. 8th! Good luck!!!!)
Thanks guys! I like it here already I must admit, I have NO IDEA what all the abbreviations stand for!!! Usually I'm pretty saavy with that kind of stuff. But, it's all new to me... and thank you, qberry, for writing out both the longer and shortened versions of estimation dates. And thank you for finding an estimated due date for me! I hadn't thought to do that yet! Oct. 8 would put me at 24 by the time I deliver and my bf at 29. Also, only one of my aunts has an Oct birthday, so my baby will stand out a bit. May is the big birthday month for us. Someone every day it seems was born in May! I'm getting more excited, but still need to tell Daddio. He had a rough work day yesterday, and wasn't in the best mood. So I went ahead and didn't bring it up. I know he won't be all happy (he just told me on Saturday he wasn't sure he wants kids, little did we know...). I have to admit the thought of telling him is still somewhat scary to me, since this wasn't planned. But I know I have to. That way I can include him in the doc visits and start setting all that up. My job doesn't offer me any kind of insurance so my cousin was telling me to get put on medicaid and I won't have to worry about costs and stuff. All this is stuff I want him to be included with. So I gotta tell him soooooon!!
Best of luck in telling the daddy!!! I just went through the medicaid thing, and it was super simple, plus they set up my first appointments and what not!!! It was really nice, since I just moved to this town and I have no idea where anything is! Plus, if you qualify for medicaid then you qualify for WIC, so you can get all the healthy foods you need!! It is a great program!
What were the qualifications for medicaid if you don't mind my asking?
It is a certain income level based on the number of people in your household. I don't recall exactly what it is, but if you call the medicaid office and ask if they handle Presumptive Eligibility they will do all of the calculations with you. They also include the unborn child in the number of people in the household, so even if it looks like you make too much for just yourself, there's a chance that you are still under the cutoff because of the additional person. Plus, if you're not married, you don't have to include the daddy's income.
When you fill out the application for medicaid, it takes them about 45 days to approve you officially. However, if you go through a Presumptive Eligibility office, they will cover you for the first 45 days, until you get your real medicaid card.
They ask for proof of income, and proof of citizenship, plus you have to have a doctor's note confirming that you are pregnant. The county health department does free tests so if you don't have a doctor's note, you can go down there and get one. Otherwise it's a pretty simple application process and they will have a list of doctors and services that they can provide!
