Is it safe to get manicures and pedicures while you are pregnant?? A bunch of my girl friends from college have invited me out to a spa. They are all getting manicures and/or pedicures. I have never had a manicure or pedicure done, so really know nothing about them. I tried to do some research on the internet, but you know how much of a friend google is to pregnant ladies! Does anyone know if the following statement is really true (highlighted in blue)...

A pedicure can work wonders in the last trimester, soothing sore feet, increasing circulation, and reducing swelling — not to mention making you feel a whole lot prettier (though you may have trouble admiring your tootsies if you can’t see past your belly already). Do be sure the manicurist doesn’t massage the area between your anklebone and heel (it could trigger contractions).

TIA!

Dont know if the blue sentence is true, but I asked my Dr about manicures before & he said no problem at all. I have had my nails done a few times already, haven't had a pedicure yet but I do wanna go get one soon.

My friends have ALWAYS had mani/pedi's done while pregnant, all the way up till their labors.. One of my friend went every two weeks, im sure ONE mani/pedi will not hurt you at all and the foot massage will feel AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

GO for it! You'll be fine!!! ENJOY IT!

My midwife told me that the risk of that sort of thing triggering contractions - when you aren't READY for contractions, is very very minimal. You could ring the place they're thinking of going to, and ask them what their policy is on pregnant women - ie is it 100% safe, or do they change the pedicure procedure a little....

As an esthetician ( mani , pedicurist) You are perfectly FINE to have a pedicure, just make sure that you tell them your pregnant and MAKE sure they do not massage in that area! They can do everywhere else for a massage though!!! And yees it does feel great!!!

some pedicurist's wont feel comfortable doing any massage but inform them when you book how far along you are so they can find a suitable esthetician to work on you!!!

Enjoy the pampering!

I just got back from a pedi with my girlfriends. We get together the first weekend of every month for pedis and lunch. I would be very sad if I couldn't get a pedi because I am pregnant.

I get pedi's occasionally and the place where I go uses Essie polish and it is formaldehyde free and not as toxic as others.

I got a pedi a few weeks ago. It's fine and the foot/leg massage feels amazing right now! I need to go again.

Thanks for all the input girls!! I was really worried that I wouldn't be able to go, but definitely think I'm going to get a pedi where it comes with a foot/leg massage. It's too bad this spa is all booked up for body massages or I would be getting one of those too!!
