quite possibly the most awesome thing ever.

I've been blessed with an amazing nurser - he latched on right away after birth and we had some trouble at my first attempt after that. But literally 5 minutes with the LC and she had me try a nipple shield. I was a bit apprehensive at first because I didn't want to get trapped into having to use something else to get him going but once I saw how easy it was to use, we were off and running.

But now I am proud to say that we are nipple shield free and all I have to do is hold my nipple and Nolan literally LUNGES onto it and we are off. It's so amazing to have him in my arms and he be so content sucking away. I can't wait to see how he does when my milk finally comes in!!! So far I have learned to eat breakfast while nursing and text message while nursing. I'm sure after we go home tomorrow I can add a few other things to the list!

Not to mention him nursing constantly (both to eat and comfort nurse) means my uterus is shrinking down SO fast and all the rest of the great things that go along with the hormones being released. So awesome!!!

Yay for mommy's milk!! You will learn to do all kinds of things while nursing. We used to have friends over every Sun night and I would play cards and board games with one hand while nursing

Lucky you...hehe!We have been struggling since coming home from the hospital, Momma just can't produce enough I am on fenugreek and having to pump all the time just to get an ounce...but I won't give up and my amazing husband bought me the Medela double breastpump so hopefully that will help us get things going! Wishing you the best and so happy you guys are off to a great start!

Aww Jenn I hope the pump gets your milk supply up for you! I'll keep my fingers crossed!!

We are back to using the shield for a little while - he was so fussy and gassy this evening because of lack of pooing. I'm talking like he was basically farting constantly, so we nursed a LOT to try and help things along. Nothing like nursing and snuggling your sweet smelling baby who has the worst farts you can possibly imagine. We are also battling some jaundice (just the normal level really) and since he wasn't pooping I was just trying to nurse the crap out of him. Well, literally...nurse the crap out of him...hahaha....to try and keep it from getting too bad. They just took him to be weighed and have all of his tests done so they will be checking his jaundice levels too.

I'm pretty sure I've got the beginnings of my milk coming in, so things should be even better. Then when we get home I can try to draw my nipple out more with my hand pump for him and see how that goes. I'm feeling very confident that the more we nurse, the better we will get at this. Especially since it just my nipples that are holding us back and that will be easy to fix or work around until we get better and better at it.

Good for you! I've always had a lot of pain at the beginning--with all 3 kids. It's better now, but cracked sore nipples were no fun! You're very fortunate it's going so well! Keep it up!
