Abby was on Nutramigen for a while, then I decided to try to switch her to Good Start to see if she could handle it. I decided to use the new "Protect Plus" version that has probiotics, figuring this would help with possible constipation (since I was also taking her off breastmilk) and gas, etc. She did tolerate the formula switch pretty well, and we were all happy. Except, she has been so gassy for several weeks, and not exactly constipated, but her BMs did get alot thicker and turned dark green. I have assumed that this is all just normal with coming off breastmilk, etc. She has also been very fussy. About 2 weeks ago, on a whim, I bought a can of the regular Good Start to try, because it was a larger can for less and I am cheap LOL. Almost overnight her gas has gotten sooooooooo much better, she is happier, drinking more, and her poop looks like she is being breastfed again!!!!!!!

So what gives???? Is it even possible for probiotics to make tummy issues WORSE?

Its funny you asked that because Ashlynn's doctor and I just had this conversation. I feed her enfamil lipil which is the regualar kind without all the probiotics. On that stuff her stool is very firm and small. He gave me some samples of the enfamil Premium with all the probiotics.
After a day of feeding her that her stool was dark green and very mushy. He said that the formulas with probiotics will make their stool more mushy like breastfed babies. And it did!
Its weird you had the opposite effect. But you where breastfeeding and switching from a different kind of formula than us.

I don't know about constipation but i do know whenever i take probiotics i get pretty bloated and gassy. So i would say,yes it possible that it's what made her tummy issues worse.

I've had the opposite effect. Whenever she gets gassy with liquidy poop, I give her some probiotics and her poop gets firmer and she's not as gassy. Maybe it has that effect on her though coming off of the bm.
