NOTE: this is NOT the official sign-up thread.... that will come in a couple weeks or so. If you are interested be on the lookout for that in the main forum.
I have had a couple people now ask me if there will be a second challenge after the first is over and I would like to get an idea of how many people would be interested in doing another, or even for the first time if they missed the first one.
For those of us already in the challenge I know it would be best to not lose momentum and get the next challenge up fairly soon after the first was over, so I think now is the time to discuss it. I feel this one has been running successfully for those that are participating and think the next could be run the same way as long as there are no objections. I would be happy to lead it again, though I, myself might not have a very big weightloss goal the second time around. I am still very hopeful to reach the goal I set for myself for this round and I didn't have a lot to lose beyond that to get to my ultimate goal.
Things we would need to think on however are if we want to do a cash prize...... I really still like the idea for the extra motivation and it's fun to win an actual prize. However it hasn't worked out all that well for this first challenge.... I have only received like 4-5 payments so far. Also, as it is a lot of work to get it all together each week I hope that anyone who signs up this time around is SURE about wanting to participate and won't go MIA. It really sucks for the teams and members that are trying when their teammates don't check in for weeks. Likewise, I need team leaders that can be there each week to get me the numbers on time..... I know it's hard to remember some times, but I really hate excluding teams each week just because nobody handed in their numbers. So if I can't get enough leaders to step forth it just won't work as I myself have plenty to do around the house as well and it does take time to do the other stuff. I set alarms on my phone to remind myself when to make the weekly posts, or close them for the deadlines... maybe that will work for some others as well.
I fear that some didn't get what they wanted out of the first challenge, but I truly believe that in a sense (and I mean this without trying to sound negative) "You get what you give". Meaning that I have noticed the teams that do the best are the ones that support one another more often and do things like keep food logs, or even just chat throughout the week about their progress.
Anyway, I have had fun with this challenge and I look forward to each Wednesday to see that progress on the scale and feel so good about myself. And I really appreciate the support of my team members and think that has contributed a lot to my own success. I would enjoy doing this again if enough people wanted to as well.
So just let me know in this post if you want to sign up for a second challenge starting soon after the first ends. I will probably post some sort of thing in the main board to direct everyone here to this post so that we can get some fresh meat in here too! lol

I'd be interested in doing a second one. But I Can't do a cash prize ATM. I think that it can work well without one for people who are motivated (Look at team pink. and I think Blue is a "free" team, too, right?)
I'd also probably do a smaller goal. Maybe 10lbs rather than 20 (18.2, actually, but whatever. lol). That would put me within 10-15lbs of my ultimate goal weight, so long as I meet my goal for both this challenge and a future one. I just don't think the weight comes off as easily in the second half. I'm already below my pre pregnancy weight with Hunter, and if I meet my goal for this challenge, I'll be right around my pre-pregnancy weight from Brooke. I feel like after that, it's going to get tougher to drop the weight, and it won't come off as quickly. kwim?
for sure... I should have mentioned that if we do a cash prize again we can do as before and have the option to be placed on a free team or paying team.
I am interested. Last week I met my goal for the first challenge. I still have about 10 lbs to reach my pre-preg weight. I have already been cheating this week since I know my team is not counting on me. I'm pretty sure I will still have 10 to lose when the challenge starts.

Thank you Ryan and Alex's Mommy for my siggy!
I might actually be interested this time!! I think I'd like to join one of the "free" teams though.
I thought I would be able to motivate myself enough to be able to lose some weight since giving birth, but I have yet to and it's really been very discouraging lately. SO I think I might get some motivation by joining something like this. I wouldn't want to be a leader though because I just have too much going on to keep track of something else!

I'm definitely interested and would want to go the free route again. I've felt very sorry for folks who have been on teams where people bailed on them or just didn't get into it. So yeah, I'd love to send the message to folks considering or reconsidering...please don't sign up unless you are really committed to this and committed to encouraging your teammates.
On a different note, I wonder if we could brainstorm any ways to add a little extra motivation. I know after doing this for almost ten weeks, my motivation level has wavered some lately. I don't know exactly. Maybe we could brainstorm some things like some weekly competitions like: which team can log the most exercise minutes. I'm trying to come up with some other ideas, but not much is coming to me at the moment.

I would love to do it! When I started becoming more active in this PR I was too late to sign up for the weightloss challenge, but would love to this time around.
First off, Alicia, I'll put eh 5 bucks in te mail tomorrow. I totally forgot all about it!
Second, I want to be in this challenge, but I'd like to be put in a group with alot alot of support.
Third, I think the weighins should be on the weekends. it's too difficult for me to get on the wii to get my weight during the week and maybe others feel like this to?
eta: next time Id like to be on the free one, since I totaly bring my team down!

Love this idea!
I'm in for another round (free team)! Alicia, I'll also sign up as a team leader this time.
Okay, I just went on the SparkPeople site and came up with a few ideas, maybe we could do these by weeks, for example:
Week One: Drink water before each meal challenge --The challenge would be to have an 8 oz glass of water before each main meal. You would have to keep track each day and then report to your team. The team with the number closest to 84 wins a badge. (3 meals a day, times 7, times 4 teammates)*
Week Two: Most exercise minutes logged per team. (Self-explanatory)
Week Three: No eating after 8 pm challenge (I hear that it helps with weightloss if you don't eat after 8 pm, so this would be a week-long challenge where each team-member reports how many nights per week they were able to do this. Team with the number closest to 28 gets a badge (7 nights x 4 team-members)
Week Four: 100 crunches per day challenge (The goal would be 100 crunches for each team-member per day. The team who comes the closest to 2800 (100 x 7 days x four team-mates) gets a badge).*
Week Five: 4 veggies a day challenge (The goal would be to have at least 4 veggie servings per day. Team that gets closest to 112 (4 veggie servings x 7 days x 4 teammates) gets a badge).*
Week Six: Walk (or Run) a Day Challenge (The goal would be to walk (or run) each day that week for at least 30 minutes. Team that got closest to 840 (30 x 7 days x 4 teammates) gets a badge.*
Week Seven: Log Your Food Challenge (The goal would be for every member of the group to log their every meal for the week. Any team where everyone logs every meal for the week gets a badge)
Week Eight: 3500 calorie challenge (The goal would be for each member to burn 3500 calories (the equivalent of one pound) in a week. We might have to work a little hard on this one, not only to do it, but also to figure out the calories which various exercises burn. For this, it would have to be an intentional exercise (walking, running, wii-fit, workout dvd, etc) vs. everyday activities like grocery shopping or walking at the mall, but there are various sites with how many calories are typically burned with certain exercises that could be used. Team that wins would have the closest to 14,000 calories (3500 for week x 4 teammates) and they would get a badge).*
Week Nine: Drink your water challenge-- Challenge would be to get your 64 ounces of water in everyday and report it. Team with closest to 1792 ounces (64 x 7 days x 4 teammates) gets a badge.*
Week Ten: This should be something big... maybe 6 day exercise challenge. The goal would be to exercise 6 days of the week for at least 30 minutes. The team that got the closest to 720 minutes (30 x 6 days x 4 teammates) would get a badge).*
*For any of the ones marked with an astericks, you could do more, it would just only be the indicated amount that would count toward the challenge.
Other ideas? I wouldn't want to add this to Alicia's shoulders, but would be happy to run these little mini-challenge competitions if teamleaders wanted to pm me their numbers each week. Of course, we'd have to have a good number of folks who wanted to do something like this to make it worthwhile. And I'd need someone to help me make badges. I dunno, might be a little extra something for fun and motivation.

Those are good ideas Catherine and I would be happy to have you as a co-host so to speak.
I do think weekdays are best though... The board is pretty dead around the weekends and I know people like to go out and do things.... and it works best for myself too since I need the time to do the stats and whatnot. Also weekends are often "bad" days for a lot of people food-wise so it's nice to do a mid-week weigh in so that you have time to get back on track lol.
I can't promise that we will all have the same teammates (for those of us already in challenge number one) but will definitely try to accomodate that if people want depending on how many people sign up and each person's goal. The teams will need to be as close as possible in overall goal so that sort of decides the teams.
Can we also acknowledge the team that loses the most each week? Almost like a weekly "biggest loser" team? Sometimes it's discouraging to feel like you're working your tail off and your team has an AWESOME week, but because the challenge is cumulative, you don't get recognized for that awesome week. kwim??
Also, I can try to make some badges if you need help with that (Especially if we're doing so many different challenges and whatnot. It's a LOT of work to just keep up with the numbers, no less make all of the badges as well). I have photoshop somewhere. I just need to reinstall it on my laptop and mess around a bit to get used to it again. :-)
