So I've been having some stomach and digestive issues and I read that taking probiotics could help. I ordered some and they came in today, and I just read the back and it says "if you are pregnant or nursing, do not use this product." Well CRAP!

Everything I read said that it was perfectly safe to take probiotics during pregnancy, but this bottle says that I can't. It's called Accu-Flora and the bottle says pro-biotic and acidophilus. Does anyone know anything about this?

Oh, no idea! I'd look up the ingredients. Sometimes, manufacturers put that on there because they want nothing to do with pregnant women, complications or birth defects, so they'd rather you not take their stuff at all vs taking it (even though it may be safe) and have that on the list of companies to hunt down for reason of the issues...

Maybe an herbalist or pharmacist (or the good ole web) can help with each ingredient and make sure there's no negative interactive with the combo of ingredients, too...

My multivitamin has probiotics in it, I hope it's okay! I was under the understanding that things that stayed in your digestive tract have no contact with the baby.

Everything that goes into your body, goes to your baby. However, I know at least acidolphilus is okay. My dr said I could keep taking it. It helps me out a ton with my stomach/digestive issues. In fact, when I stopped taking it for a few days, I had all kinds of trouble and was even in the hospital yesterday morning.

take it over to your local pharmacy and ask the pharmacist - they should know from looking at what's in it

I agree with the ladies who said ask a pharmacist. Even call if you don't want to go down there (I'm lazy!). Or call your doctor. Everything I've heard has said probiotics are okay, but it never hurts to double check.

Probiotics are COMPLETELY safe while pregnant AND breastfeeding! In fact- they are necessary for proper digestion, and gut health! They are even beneficial to our immune system! (A LOT of germs that we ingest are killed off in our digestive tract, so long as we are healthy!)

Almost everything will say "Not for use while pregnant and/or breastfeeding" Even some prenatals! It's just to cover their butts! (for whatever reason!)

Oh and don't worry about taking too much...there is no such thing! Your body will absorb what it needs, and "pass" the rest. It wont "build up" or anything like that
