For the past 3 months i have been 4 weeks larger than i am suppose to be. I have had 3 ultrasounds and they still have not changed my due date. They say im just going to have a big baby. At the last ultrasound i was 27 weeks and she was mes. around 30 to 31 weeks and she was about 4 lbs. I went in to labor 2 days ago and they had stopped it because they said she was not big enough. I had my 31 week check up today and she is still 4 weeks ahead at 35 weeks. my feet and hands and vagina are very swollen so they put me on bed rest. I had gained 8lbs since my last appt. They also put me in for another ultrasound tomorrow. I dont know what to do ...I feel like i should change my ob.....why wont they tell me more..... anyone in the same boat

I'm sure they stopped it because baby isn't ready yet - lung wise. I've been measuring ahead as well - it actually pretty common. Baby typically gains around 1/2 lb a week or a little less so if baby was 4lbs at 30 to 31 she will probably be a 7 1/2 to 8lb baby if you hit the average delivery time of 38 weeks. If there is a concern that baby is too large or getting too large your ob should talk to you about either induction or c-section. But the biggest concern at this gestation is that babies lungs are quite ready yet - even if they do weigh a "normal" amount. DS was born at 5lbs 12oz but spent a week in the NICU because his lungs weren't ready - so it isn't the size that counts. At 31 weeks baby would probably have a few week stay at NICU if your labor went through. Kaylee is WELL over 5lbs and if my pressures go up and they induce before 36 weeks they will give steroids for the lungs b/c they aren't fully mature. It's great that they're doing more u/s's and following you and baby and growth.

I'm sorry you're feeling so miserable Keep those feet up and drink lots of fluids. Hang in there!

I agree with Alethia...

You want your baby to bake as long as possible. Lungs and other major organs may not be fully developed and this can cause major problems (learning disabilities, health issues, greater chance of SIDS...) in the future. They are stopping labor because they can and because most docs want baby to get to at least 36 weeks unless mom has a severe medical condition that is life threatening, or baby is just not "listening" and insists on being born!

Hope it all goes well and your baby bakes for many more weeks. Keep in mind, u/s can be off by a pound or more, so your baby may not nearly be as big as they are guaging.

I'm about the same as you...I've been measuring about 3 weeks ahead and also baby has been measuring acting older. They still have not adjusted my due date..all my midwife said is I will probably not make it to Sept. But I agree with alethia it is probably the lungs that are the major concern. I would ask for a second opinion or ask the doctor directly why he/she hasn't moved the date and what is going on with baby. Also another thing to discus is finding out how developed the lungs are. I know they can test for that.
Good luck with the ultrasound tomorrow KUP

They use and amniocentises to test the lungs and even at 35 weeks they are probably not done so if you have to deliver they'll do the steroids over the amnio.
