I woke up SCREAMING the other night with a leg cramp in my right calf.

I still can't walk right on it. Is this a pregnancy thing, or a geriatric thing?

A Pregnancy thing.... a lot of girls on here have complained of them. I had them terribly with DS but none with this pregnancy. knock on wood! I think b/c I've been stretching more and drinking more water this time around. Flex your foot when it starts to happen and drink some gatorade at night.

Yep, it's a pregnancy thing- 3rd trimester...I've been having them too. Actually I had one in each leg this morning and had to get out of bed and stand up both times in order for it go away...OMG it hurts so bad!

I've had the problem for years. I found that taking extra calcium and magnesium every day keeps me from getting them. I started getting them again a couple of weeks ago and talked to my Dr. She said it was fine to up my dose of cal and mag. So, now I take 1000 mg cal and a full dose of mag. I was taking half those doses. I still take my prenatal on top of those. I take them in 3 different doses through the day to make sure they're absorbed. After a week of upping my dose I haven't had anymore.

I find that the more I exercise (ie walking, on my feet a lot during the day) that I tend to get them worse that same night. I eat a lot of bananas with my GD diet so that's not helping me either (wish it did)...I guess mine could be fibromyalgia related as well....I'll have to try more calcium!

I've been getting them! They are usually better if I have lots of calcium and drink lots of water. I even take water to bed with me now. My roommate probably thinks I'm a crazy person screaming in my sleep.

Pregnancy thing, I have been getting them also. I had one so bad the other day that I could feel the pain in my calf for at least 3 days. They are not fun at all. It's just the joys of being pregnant. LOL :-)

Thanks all!!! I've been pregnant four times now and this is the FIRST it's ever happened to me. It's probably all over the boards and I just skim it and pay no attention since I never had it happen. Now I know!

I hate bananas =(

Ah well, not too much longer now!

I got them a lot about a month ago, screaming and all like you described. It hurt for days after like a pulled sore muscle. I have been eating bananas, but I heard OJ also has a lot of Potassium so it helps as well. I like the chocolate covered Trader Joe's bananas Makes eating a banana a lot more fun.

Definitely a pregnancy thing. I don't get leg cramps at all unless I'm pregnant. I try to make sure I stretch my legs, especially my calves, before I go to bed every night. It does seem to help. Also, make sure that you are drinking enough water because dehydration can cause leg cramps too.
