Thanks for posting this.
While I understand that big snowsuits can be a problem, when you live where I do in Canada there aren't many options. Even the shower cap car seat covers won't do it.
If you HAVE to do a snow suit, make sure it is a thin fleece one (They have great ones at Old Navy) and bundle baby after putting on the harness. I know that sounds obvious, but I've seen babies bundled under harnesses before...

TX gets colder than AZ but our cold season is usually in the 50's so I'm not too worried

Thank you for posting this. I never would have known and DH surely would not have known! Luckily, like Marti, if it gets that cold here, it is only a day or two and then back up into non-coat weather.
BTDT Mommies - Keep on posting stuff like this. It's great info!

Local hospitals should also provide you with carseat safety classes. DH and I took one and I'm glad we did. I watch most of my friends install and use their car seats improperly and it drives me crazy!

This is what we used with Chayse all winter into the spring. We live in New Brunswick Canada and its gets to be -30 out during the winter, this was great because we could dress him in a light fleece suit and then add a blanket and cover him with the bundle me. When we got in the car we simply opened it and took the blanket off just in case we didn't want him to over heat.
A JJ Cole Bundle me.
JJ Cole Bundle Me Lite - Stone - JJ Cole - Babies"R"Us
Here he is getting ready to come home from the hospital just 3 days old

I live in Missouri so it gets super cold in the winter.
I had this cover for the car seat. It was similar to MissMelissa26's. It was elastic around the edges so it fit perfectly over the seat and then had a little opening where the head was so I could open it without having to take the whole thing off. It was absolutely awesome. It was made for me. If I find a pic, I will put it on here.

I had this for my other boys and it always worked really well, I just added a hat.
Kiddopotamus: Products: CozyUp
I'm not sure if the jjcole one is the safest because it has to go under the baby, I thought you weren't supposed to put anything under him or the straps.

I agree. We bought the JJCole one for Olivia to use and our hospital wouldn't even let her come home with us until it was off her car seat. So we ended up finding a shower-cap style one like the kiddopotomus one you had and used that instead. It worked pretty slick an it was super easy to put on & take off.

What I learned in my carseat class was that the only thing that should be between your child, the seat, and the straps is their clothing. Add on's to car seats are considered unsafe if they at all increase the length of the carseat straps, hence the reason why you would zip the jacket outside the straps and not underneath.

Thanks for posting! I plan on getting one of those carseat covers too just not sure which one. I had no idea about the whole zipping the jacket over the harness thing!

That is very similar to the one I have. I just love it. And your right, just add a hat and your are all set!

JJ Cole finally came out with a cover version in addition to the Bundle Me - Amazon.com: JJ Cole Car Seat Cover: Baby
I just got the Bundle Me as a gift but I think I'll exchange it for this.
