geez, eli was in his til he was 12 months. but jhett is already 2 lbs from the max limit now, at 6 months. so i have to switch him to a convertible already!

i was going to put him an identical seat as Eli, and they would match, but I realized Eli is only a couple lbs away from the max on that seat....so Jhett will prob go in Eli's seat and Eli will get a new seat. I can't really buy 2 new ones right now so this is the most logical solution I think. I was just planning to get more use out of the infant seat, didn't think we'd be retiring it this early!

Lauren hasn't outgrown her seat yet but I am sure she'll hit the height limit way before she hits the weight because she's tall and skinny.

Neve is an inch away from outgrowing hers. In a way I am ready to chuck that stupid heavy thing, but in other ways it will bite when she is asleep and I have to take her out of the carseat to bring her in.

I'm not looking forward to getting rid of it because always falls asleep in the carseat when we're driving. Sometimes those are her best naps. I ran around last weekend and she fell asleep on the way home. I just carried the carseat in and she slept for over a hour once we were in the house.

My chunky monster has been out of his for almost a month. He is 21-22 lbs. Add that to the weight of the seat and this mama's arms were begging for relief. I miss letting him sleep in it but now that he's older he really wasn't sleeping when we went into a store, etc. The noises always woke him up.

Gosh, our babies are going to be toddlers before we know it.

I am soooooooo thankful we skipped the infant seat because Nolan would have outgrown it at 4/5 months. And I never would have carried him around in it anyways.

we've been in convertible for about a month now as well. the height was 29inches on his infant and at his 4 month check up he was 27 1/2 so I figured he's def 29 or almost now. He also hated it car rides were nothing but crying. He loves his convertible seat ( he hates rear facing) but at least this one is taller and sits up more so he can look out the back window and such.

i'm rephrasing what i said before:

it doesn't have as much to do with their height as it does where their head reaches the top, it doesn't matter if they're feet are sticking out b/c they have long legs. but i would *think* most babies would reach the weight limit before that? i haven't ever seen a baby whose head was sticking out over the top but still was under the weight limit. most seats are 20-22 lbs, (the keyfit 30 is 30 lbs).

i never carried the seat around. there was once or twice if he was sleeping in it i put him in the shopping cart (not in the top b/c keyfits are purposely made not to fit there) but usually i just take him out of the carseat and wear him into the store, or push him in the umbrella stroller. so the seat is in pristine condition since it hasn't left the backseat much.

speaking of carrying seats around, i have seen people carrying it around with the base attached! and yeah, that must be super heavy! i have also seen people bring the carseat with the base attached into the hospital to bring their babies home lol. they usually get sent back out to install the base and come back for baby. (i have stayed in the maternity ward 4x now so i've seen it a lot).

We ought to move Anna to the regular seat. She's already 17 lbs and I think she'd be way more comfortable in the bigger one. Plus it's getting a little heavy to carry her in the infant carrier too!

I am sincerely hoping Evy can fit into hers until January, when I can afford to spend a chunk of change on a convertible seat! But I have a feeling she won't. She's 16 pounds now (5 months) and if she keeps gaining about 2 pounds a month, then that won't really work. LOL. Plus she is really long, but I guess that doesn't matter as much as long as her head doesn't hang out.

I am cringing at all of you making the comments about being okay as long as their heads aren't hanging out....there are height limits for a reason. I know I had to put the headrest on our True Fit when his head was an inch below the top of the seat.....

We switched Emmersyn at 3 months. We were going on an 9 hour car trip when she was 3.5 months, so we went ahead and installed it. She wasn't a fan of her carrier + we rarely even took it out of the car. So it just made sense to switch her. She has loved it ever since.

It does suck that she wakes up when we take her out, but I can usually get her back to sleep if we're at home. She never even really stayed asleep in her carrier when I'd take it out, anyways.

Me too Heather. It's true that their feet can hit the back or hang over and it's fine, but the top of the head should be no closer than 1 inch from the top of the car seat. Also, we plan to ERF (extended rear face). I learned a lot from the Car Seat Safety board and it makes a lot of sense. It's 500% safer to be rear facing. Here's some links:

Car safety seats for children: rear facing for best protection -- Henary et al. 13 (6): 398 -- Injury Prevention

Rear-Facing Carseats and Safety

What to consider when positioning carseats for toddlers -- O’Keefe 30 (4): 12 -- AAP News

oh that is not what i was saying at all! i was just saying it doesn't necessarily go by how many inches long your baby is, b/c they could have long legs and not necessarily a long torso. some people think if their baby is such-and-such inches long, they have outgrown the seat. they only outgrow it if their head is one inch from the top. and i would think lots of babies hit the weight limit long before that, so i have never seen any babies going around in a seat with the head sticking up over the top. like with eli, he hit 12 months and still was under the weight limit and his head was nowhere near the top. but we moved him up b/c he was a year and he seemed happier sitting up by that age. and jhett is totally fine in the head dept, but is nearing the weight limit.

of course if the baby's head is actually one inch from the top (or whatever the manufacturer of the seat says) then they have "outgrown" the seat. lots of people say their babies have outgrown the seaat, b/c they are getting heavy to carry around in it. when you don't actually have to carry them around in it--just like you don't when they're in a convertible.

eta: oh, and we are doing ERF too!

eta: and another thing i wanted to add. i just convinced a facebook friend to get new carseats for her kids. she'd been in a wreck and i posted a commented to make sure to get new seats through her insurance company. a few days later she posted that she didn't need to. so i persuaded her it was better to be safe the sorry and sent her a couple websites and told her, the insurance would pay so it wasn't money out of her pocket anyway. i am all about being safe. just to clarify.

Almost there, we will out grow height before weight. \That is true of all my kids. We have the Snugride and the height is 29 and Jayden is about 28, sovery close.

We haven't moved the straps in Laurens to the top slots either because of this same reason.

Just to clarify what I meant..I meant if she is IN the height requirements, even if say her feet were hanging off a bit, then it would be okay. Not if she was out of the height requirements.
